Moorcroft letter. Please help

Hi,
My partner has received a letter (posted to our old address and passed on) from Moorcroft Group PLC. It states that my partner has an outstanding balance with Lloyds TSB, but no actual amount is mentioned. I've been doing some research between tears (I've never been in this situation before) and am guessing this means we do not deal with Lloyds at all, or do we speak to them first?
What should we do about the address? The letter states they got our address through a credit reference agency (my partners bank account was registered to the place he lived before we moved together, and we are now temporarily at a friends house) I don't know how to go about sending them the "three" letters considering they have my old address?
Any help is very appreciated, I'm so scared that bailiffs are going to show up at my friends door.
Thank you

Hi
Moorcroft sent me a letter once, regarding non-payment of my water bill (I thought it was on DD!!
)
I freaked out & called the water company in a blind panic, gave them my account number & offered to pay the outstanding amount. They were happy to take the payment & said they would notify Moorcroft to close the file.
I think the reason they closed it so quickly was that it was the first letter from Moorcroft however & I offered immediate & full payment. I don't know your circumstances or the amount owed so whether this is an option to you I'm not sure. Do you know of the debt to Lloyds? Does your partner have any paperwork that would allow Lloyds to track this down?
I think first things first, you need to contact Lloyds. Find out what is owed, and try and get things sorted with them, NOT involving the bailiffs. At the end of the day, Lloyds want their money back. If you can propose a way to get it to them, then they have to be reasonable about this.
Good luck & don't panic!

Moorcroft are not bailiffs. At worst they may send a doorstep agent but if you want to be pro active you can avoid that.
If you dont recognize the debt use the 'prove it' letter. If the debt is yours then why not offer a resonable repayment plan.0 -
Thank you for your replies. The problem is we don't know how much it is for, as the letter doesn't say. How would we go about asking them this?0

I assume he did have debts with Lloyds that were unpaid?
If so what was it? Credit card, overdraft, loan, etc.......?
When would it have been from?
i.e. how long since he last paid or acknowledged any debt in writing? And when was the account initially taken out?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

It's an overdraft. He took it out in 2006, but the last time he used the account was 2007. He hasn't received anything because his parents have been returning his post to sender rather than forwarding it to him.
Lloyds have just told us the amount and that it has gone to debt collection. What should be our next step?
Thanks0 -
How much is it? If you can afford to get shut of it, do that. Otherwise work out how much you can afford per month and offer Moorcroft that. Do not let them bully you into paying more than that.I'm Debt Free :j 2/09/2013

Don't worry about anyone turning up at your door- it is just an empty threat, it will never happen. Also the debt may be statute barred as it is so old (probably why there is no amount on the letter) so I would investigate further with out admiting any liabilty to moorcroft.0

National debt line have told us it sounds as though the debt is statute barred. They said they are sending us a letter to forward to Moorcroft, so hopefully this will help.
Thank you for your help. I've been in such a state I don't know what I would've done without these forums!0 -
If he used the account in 2007 then the debt may not be statute barred yet. You need to be carefull on how you proceed incase he is still within the limitation period.
Personaly, I would not make contact before they also put an amount in the letters.0 -

That's just about possible if you live in Scotland (5 years) but not if you are in England/Wales (6 years) so be careful.0
