Barclays declared me 'Bankrupt' but I wasnt..

Ive been a customer with barclays for years
One day I went to log into my account and basically I was locked out.I rung the number onscreen and the lady informed me the account was closed 'Because I had gone bankrupt'.I nearly dropped through the floor to be honest.

I got into the local branch and yes on the system it had me as bankrupt. After an hour of very stern words they finally admitted it was an error and the legal team would sort it out.

They took 2 days and the account became active with 1,600 back in there.(sheepish phonecall) no sorry just saying its sorted.
But since then somethings happened Ive never missed a payment but I keep getting refused Credit (the last was 2 weeks ago)

I went for a credit check via lloyds and that came back perfect but even minor things are getting refused. Is it possible this event with barclays is lurking around somewhere thats being missed with the search?

Hi Oathy, You will find companies report to one of the CRAs rather than all three, that's why it's suggested that you get your credit files from all three of the CRAs to see what's held on there.

They are £2 each for paper/online copies.

    Click on blue links below:-

    Experian - Click here

    Equifax - Click here

    Callcredit - Click here
NB: You can't order a paper copy online, they would rather you pay £12 don’t do that just print off the application form, P.O. for £2 and post this recorded delivery.

    Best wishes

PS Hope you don't mind me posting the links Pippa

Barclays themselves cannot put a BR entry on your credit reports. The info on that comes from official sources only.

As said, check all 3 credit files. It's possible that one of the CRAs has made a mistake and accidentally linked you to someone else's bankruptcy. e.g. a very similar name/details.

Are any of your refusals from a subscriber to the lending code? If they are, then the code says that they should explain what prompted any refusal.

    thank you so much.
2 of the credit reports came back fine...Experian!!! there it was bold as brass about the barclays.ive scanned the letters from barclays and explained in (detail) sent it all off to experian.

thank you so much for saying about using 3 I just assumed if one was okay that was that.
  • Let us know how experian respond, what their explanation is (!) and how they resolve it. It will be very interesting!
