mortgage & credit card application

Howdy,
Not sure if this is relevant for the credit card forum or mortgage forum, but I’ve chose this one, so here it goes.
I will be house hunting from Jan 2013 (first time buyer, finally have all funds in place) However I would like to have a 0% purchase interest credit card (the tesco 16 month one) as a bit of a backup for a few big purchases (Fridge, bed, etc.) to just help with the cash flow for when I move in.
The question is when should be i applying for the card so that it does not affect my mortgage application / credit report (I’m just wary of multiple checks on my credit). Should I apply for the credit card at the same time, before or after the mortgage application.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Guess it depends how many other recent searches u might have on ur credit file? With two recent searches from Halifax for mortgage & two for credit cards back in sept there is a negative impact according to experian due to increase in credit searches,... Makes me look credit hungry apparently!

Either well before you apply for a mortgage, or after completion takes place. Do not apply for credit of any kind between application and completion of a mortgage.
