best washing detergent...

I'm wondering what is the best detergent... I have quite allergy prone skin but my OHs clothes get quite dirty and sweaty because of jogging, riding his bike etc. I've tried cheaper washing powders such as Easy and Sainsburys basics liquid which are fine for my skin but not so great for his clothes. More pricier brands such as surf, persil and aerial are great for him but not for me.
Sooo what would you all reccommend? Thanks all in advance :)

Hi, I have this problem too, as I can't use bio detergent, so for my clothes I use a non bio liquid (Fairy or Persil non bio usually), then for oh's clothes etc oranything dirty, I just add some Napisan powder to the load which boosts the stain removing power a bit and this suits everyone! I get the Napisan in Sainsbury's.

Lidl's Formil washing powder has been awarded by Which! in the past. Costs around 11p/Wash last time I visited Lidl. Not use it before though, I tend to use Persil (non bio) and Ariel mostly though may try Formil sometime soon though.

Not sure if Formil is non-bio though. You can get Formil Non-Bio Liquid Detergent as well so I assuming you can get powder in non-bio as well.

I wouldn't recommed the liquid though as liquid detergent is notorious for making the washing machine smell.

I've used the Formil non-bio tablets and they're fab. Didn't set off either my or DH's allergies, which are triggered differently. Not that different in price to other own brand ones (from memory) but certainly much cheaper than branded. I would rate it better than Persil or Fairy for allergies, although I don't have particularly dirty clothes to know how it goes for that.

ETA: Just ran out of Formil and couldn't get to Lidl, so trialling M&S essentials non-bio. It seems fine for me so far (I tend to react instantly) but a bit too soon to tell for DH.

Liquid detergent should be fine? If you put through a really hot wash on a regular basis I wouldn't have thought any detergent would cause a problem with the machine smelling, and using liquid for sensitive skin is good as it is rinsed away much easier.

I've found that the liquid does cause a build up of slime, even if I put it directly into the drum. I buy Formil when it's on offer in Lidl, but if i run out before it comes around again I have used Aldi Almat which seems just as good to me.

I'm glad i've seen this thread as although I dont have allergies I have a large amount of Bold liquid (through doing one of the savvy circle trials) and it is RUBBISH, so many of my clothes have got marks on that havent come out in the wash and I'm sure its the bold. Might give Lidls a try.

In terms of absolute washing performance, Aerial seems to be the best and by quite some margin, IME.

Allergy problems are often down to the current 'eco' fad which has resulted in washing machine manufacturers being forced to cut the amount of water used in rinsing. Detergent deposits are frequently left left on clothes causing irritation. Giving items an extra rinse or two is a nuisance but it can help.

Another vote for Lidl's Formil powder here.
DH and DD have sensitive skin and DH is a bike mechanic and cyclist so we have oil, muck and sweat on a daily basis.
Formil copes fine with the lot, doesn't bother anyone's skin and is pretty cheap.
I use the powder in the blue box (can't remember if it's non bio or bio and I have a cat on my knee who is not up for moving right now to let me check.)

if you dont have a lidl's close at hand try ALDI own brand, my mum was a avid user of DAZ washing powder until she tried aldi's own brand now she wont use daz, £2.99 a box cant remember how many washes. 30something.
