Chancel Repair Liability

This Chancel Repair Liability would crop up from time to time when I worked in the Lending department of a major lender.
If a solictor confirmed to us that a property was liable we'd put a special condition on the mortgage offer so that suitable indemnity insurance could be arranged.
It's not a scam - it's a safeguard that, in the unlikely event of a claim by the church being made, you wouldn't have to fork out thousands of pounds.
Still, you've had confirmation that you don't need this insurance.
I'm not quite sure what you want your MP to do about itEarly retired - 18th December 2014

It is a scam why else would they offer us insurance when we would not need it. If they have offered it to us them how amny others have just gone ahead and paid up without even checking whether they had to.
My MP thinks that it is a scam also and he is loooking into it as we believe it is another con in the form of PPI.0 -
I think it was more likely that the solicitor made a mistake, than try to scam you.
If he or she was trying to scam you, they would need to get something out of it. As far as I'm aware they don't get commission for this type of liability insurance.Early retired - 18th December 2014

There is nobody else in the country more likely to understand how to set up, operate and exploit a scam than an MP.0 -
have to recoup the rest from their neighbours. Like they are going to pay up. not a chance. I know there would be a miniscule chance of it happening but I think its so unfair in this day and age that the Church of England could have the right and the power to do this sort of thing. I am so incensed by this I have written to my MP who happens to be a Christain Socialist? to get his opinion. We shall see. I might even right to the new Archbishop of Canterbury aswell.
A person may live in a Parish that was created after 1532 but at one time it could have been in in a an earlier parish and so the liability in that area may well be tied to a church miles away. Quite often areas which were not in parishes had enclosure acts in the 18th century creating liability in those areas.0
