If you really cannot get to grips with knitting with two needles - there is another way! a 'knitting loom'. anyone remember what we used to call 'french knitting' when I was a child? its simply winding a piece of yarn around the loom twice (to start off) then passing one layer over another? I am thinking of getting some looms for the grandaughters for christmas as they are just not getting two needle knitting!

I can knit with two needles but can't seem to get onto patterns!

I knit with one needle under my arm (apparently the Yorkshire way!?) and can't seem to do it any other way.

Just thought maybe bartering is a skill too. Not one that I have though!
  • So true angel, DH makes me crawl with embarassment sometimes he bargains over all sorts of things, :o but it can be very useful:)

I think patience is important (I dont have enough!) and also the ability to plan - we don't plan to fail, but we do fail to plan!

My OH did this with the computer I am using now! it was an ex display model on sale (with monitor - a yukky old one) and OH spent half an hour haggling with sales staff (who kept having to run to manager to report latest offer!) and I ended up spending £200 less with a brand new monitor (tho an inch less in size but it was a flat screen), and he even got them to throw in a new keyboard!
that was three no, five! years ago - and am thinking ..........its time for a new computer.............lets take OH computer shopping!:)

oops forgot to say - the sale price was £599 - I got it for £399 with new monitor and keyboard!

My husband loves the fact that I can make something from nothing, give me a box of ribbon, material and needle and thread and cinders will be going to the ball !

    most important... is imagination
most useful skill i would say is things like sewing there is an artistry in task's like those anyone can follow a recipe book and produce a tasty (or at least edible) meal, i know how to knit but can't get the hang of it properly no matter how often i keep at it, it's either to tight or loose and ends up looking like a dogs dinner, it's an art i just can't grasp despite understanding the principles of it.

I wouldn't worry about 'knitting' too much, tori.k - just remember 'each to their own'. We all have talents, in one direction or another ............... If you need some knitting doing, can you perhaps find somebody who can and then arrange to 'skill swap' with them :).

I know that lots of people say that hanging wallpaper is simple - not for me it ain't :o! On the other hand, ask me for an 'Aran Sweater' - and I'm in my element ;).

Give me a needle/cotton and I can make (almost) anything; knitting and crochet - no problem at all; cooking - not at all bad and fast improving all the time; spreadsheets - lead me to 'em; decorating - no flipping chance :rotfl:.

Another big skill is 'Common Sense' - all the know-how in the world won't get you anywhere without some of that.
