in Cutting tax
for everyone raving about the uniform tax rebate........
i was at uni from 99-02 and racked up £10k worth of student debt with RBS on booze, clapped out cars and holidays. i was working throughout and in part time empoyment untill april 05 when i got a government job.
after all this time id completely forgot about the student loan
and it seemed so had RBS.....
......fastforward to late 2009 and a mate at work said i could claim a tax rebate on my uniform of £80 a year. so i wrote to tax office, sat back and waited for my £320 cheque...........
.........a few months later i got my reply:
'we've looked at ur tax and you underpaid during your student/part time job and with the uniform rebate have changed your taxcode by £1. oh, and by the way, you owe us £11k' (with interest):mad::mad:
so now im paying £100 a month repayment (now on £30k) and getting a extra quid in my pay!
now i wish id remembered about the loan earlier...........or RBS forgot for longer

Hells bells, I have even more bad news for you, where did you get the figure of £80 a year from/...... some mate........
The tax you would receive back from any full year for washing your own logo ed uniform is £12 for this year, even less for last year, less the year before.
The tax allowance is £60 a year so you save the tax on this £60 which is £12. (20%)
which is why thy have given you £1 a month for a year.
They would have caught up with you sometime, you have just got to realsise that.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I fail to see the link between a student (presumably) overdraft with RBS, or even a loan, and an underpayment of tax on a part time job.
Can they go back to 2005 and beyond?
And how can you forget you borrowed money from the bank?0
