I have bought an unfinished dolls house for my dd christmas but can only get 1litre tins of silk paint locally. Does anyone know of an alternative I can use or where I can buy smaller tins. Want to be able to wipe the finished house so emulsion wouldn't really work. Thanks.

Depending on how much of each paint you want model shops do very small tins of paints for kits etc, or if you have a DIY shed nearby that does Dulux paint mixing you can buy tester pots of their paint (or even tester pots of any other form of paints). If you want them to be wipe clean you could always coat them over with clear varnish afterwards.Adventure before Dementia!0

ask friends and family for leftover paint if you can. Hobbycraft sells sticky felt which works very well as carpet and you can find links on line for printable things like dollshouse size pictures for the walls. Hope this helps, Pm me if you need any help as I used to make dolls houses as part of my job and am have made lots of bits and bobs myself. GinnyClearing the junk to travel light

How about freecycling for paint? Use samle pots? If you are decorating inside, what about using samples of wallpaper? I used some which looked like carpet for my dolls house lounge and stairsLucylema x :j0

Use sample pots. ikea does wallpaper for a dolls house, you can also use felt pen to colour in small areas.0

When my daughter was little, money was really tight and I made her a dolls house out of cardboard boxes from the supermarket. I decorated all the rooms with wrapping paper as wallpaper and it worked really well. Very economical too. Have to say, she loved that dolls house and it lasted a good few years. :j0

hi , you can tear off pieces of wallpaper from open rolls in stores to check its what you want you could use that or carpet shops used to let you have sample books that were old stock not sure if still the case but you could ask ive had them but not for years x0

I used tester pots from DIY stores, there was a special offer from Dulux where you can get a pot free. I also used the craft sites which give free downloads for ditsy prints and backing papers, worked really well. eBay is also a good place for getting bargains. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoyed doing mine.Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

we made dd a wooden dolls house 2 years ago. i used b&q match pots in pink/white shades for exterior, and samples of wallpaper for internal. i also picked up some carpet tiles and material to make curtains and bedspreads from a charity shop. including the wooden furniture lot we got off ebay for £12, the whole thing cost less than £60 to make, furnish & decorate! im sure your dd will love her dolls house as much as ours did/does, its still played with on an almost daily basis & were hoping it will become a family heirloom :rudolf:It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.0

Thanks for all the replies. Can I ask for those of you who used Emulsion, did you varnish over it to make it a bit more durable. I have a paper pad with co-ordinating paper I am going to use as wallpaper. Does anyone know if acrylic paint would be ok to use for the furniture. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance.0
