Council Tax - Appeal turned down - What next?

My parents recently appealed against their council tax banding but have now received the standard letter back saying that they think the banding is appropriate.
We checked the what the house price would have been in 1991 based on our own sale and of same-sized or larger houses in our street and found that we were all well within a band F when we are in a band G. The strange thing is though that other neighbours have appealed and won and one neighbour told us he didnt even apply but got a letter through with a rebate saying that he was entitled to a refund because other houses in the street had appealed and won.
We are confident that our banding is wrong so where do we go from here?
I've read somewhere about court claims etc but can't seem to find it now. Can someone please explain what we should be doing next?
Thanks for any help!

Hi Venny,
What to do next, wel, I would suggest that you ring up the caseworker involved in your parents appeal and ask for the reaoning behind their decision. At the same time make copious notes and see if you can rebut their arguements. I should ask, was this done on appeal or did your parents do this as a 'ban review' under the council tax charter? This will let me know what steps to really take.
Please note that this posting would be much better on the correct board 'being the general council tax board'. Please post your reply on there and I will try and help along with many others.
Kind regards

Check your Council Tax Band on the VOA Website as you could save 1000's - http://www.voa.gov.uk/council_tax/cti_home.htm0 -
On what grounds does the letter reject your parent's appeal ? Does it say anything about an "Invalid Proposal" ? If so write back again and head the letter "Appeal Against Notice of Invalid Proposal".
If it is a 'simple' rejection, write back and ask for the reasons. Don't do much, if anything, over the phone - you have no proof of who said what and when.
I went through a similar rigmarole, I wrote 4 times to the VOA: appealing - then appealing against their rejection - then appealing against their rejection of my appeal against their rejection.... etc, etc.
Eventually they gave me a date to attend a tribunal to put my case forward in person. About three weeks before the tribunal I had a letter from the VOA saying that my house had been re-banded due to a "clerical error" when it was originally valued. I got over £2500 back - well worth the effort.
Stick with it - you have to go through the 'proper procedures' !!0
