BLS Collections - Halifax

Hi All,
I have received a letter from a BLS Collections, PO BOX 467E Oxford OX4 1WA regarding a old Halifax overdraft.
The letter says I now owe £1,026.84 and have 7 days from receipt of the letter to pay or if I do not send payment immediately legal action will be taken against me. It then lists the following:
1. A Charging Order against your property (I rent)
2. An attachment to your earnings
3. A visit by County Court bailiff to seize goods
On top of that if I do not pay further costs will be added.
On the reverse of the letter is a form which is basically an income & expenditure. Im thinking I should fill this in so they can see im in financial difficulty, send it back with a letter offering a standing order payment to begin on 1st Dec for say £10 a month.
Any sugesstions please would help with these people?

First of all, is the debt yours?
Secondly, please read the letter very carefully. Does it say WILL be taken or MAY be taken. These letters are meant to frighten you and at first reading you do not pick up on the subtlties.
I don't think you have to supply income and expenditure, but someone more experienced will be along soon. hth
  • It actually says:
"Its important for you to know that Legal Action WILL be taken against you if you do not send payment immediately"
    Then says:
"Following Legal Action and the entry of Judgment the following action MAY be taken"
It then lists the 3 things I mentioned before :)
The in big bold capital letters it says:
"YOU HAVE 7 DAYS FROM RECEIPT OF THIS LETTER TO MAKE PAYMENT TO AVOID FURTHER ACTION"
In answer to your other question yes sadly the debt is mine hence why I am happy to start paying back.
    Thanks for advice!
  • These are standard letters.

BLS (trading name of Lloyds TSB that own Halifax) just need some payment proposals from you.

Send the I&E back and start making payments. Don't wait for them to respond to your I&E and accept the proposals, just pay anyway.

If you don't the debt will end up being sold.
