Two Interviews

I firstly wanted to thank people for their advice regarding my Uni course, I have decided that it would be best for me to leave. The issues I am having with my tutor are just causing me far too much stress & I can't see a way to rectify it. She's being so sneaky about what she is doing, that if I call her out on it, I'll just be told I'm being unreasonable. So frustrating.

Anyway, I have two interviews coming up. One is tomorrow as an Admin role, but I'm a bit worried about the hours & company (Will explain) and the other is in retail, but again, not sure on hours? But the company is a good one & in the area that I want to work.

This admin job was first advertised as 20-40 hours (so as needed basically). No rate of pay, so I'm assuming NMW (Which is ok!). But my worries started a few days ago.. This is the timeline (Now, bear in mind, there is nothing spectacular on my CV.. I have admin experience in different areas, the most being 6 months). So the job gets advertised, I send my CV & cover letter, the guy calls me that night to set an interview. I can't make it because he gives me the option of the next two days & I have commitments. He apologises & says he can't interview after those dates because he wants someone to start ASAP. Fair enough, I think & I move on. The ad goes back up again (this time for 40hrs), so I email him & let him know I am still interested. Get a reply, they've already hired someone (The day after the ad went up). I get a call from him a day later, apparently the person they'd hired didn't like the sound of the job & walked out. So he's offered me an interview again. The job hasn't gone back up & he's willing to be more flexible with the interview date. Am I being paranoid? It just sounds a bit too good to be true to me.. Why is he so interested in me? Maybe something stands out on my CV.. But surely there are better people out there?

The second job is one I've wanted for a looong time. It's in a store that I LOVE. The hours are a bit weird.. Well, it doesn't actually specify the hours per say, just that they are 12 hours & lists 4 days. But I can't imagine it being 3hr shifts? Hmm. That interview is on Sunday. What do I do if both offer me the job? Is it ok to accept a job & then not take it? I really only want the second one, but I can't be stupid in this economy.. I might not get my ideal job :( The funny thing is, I didn't actually apply for this one, I'd applied previously for another position.. They must have pulled my CV from there. The closing date hasn't passed & I've got an interview. And from the sounds of it, I've skipped part of their hiring process as well. I've just got a straight one-to-one interview, rather than the normal process of group interviews, trials and then the one-to-one interview.

Mostly I want advice on this first job.. I've been hired by odd companies before. And I was offered a position for a solar panel company earlier in the year, that was 20-40hrs as well.. After days of emails, the woman turned around (the night before I was due to start) and told me that the funding had been pulled and I was no longer needed. I just don't want to get screwed over again.. Especially as if I leave my course, I need a job to cover my bills!

Would love some thoughts on this :)

You can attend both interviews to see how it goes - get a feel for the prospective employer.

If you accept a job you are probably not obliged to take it up until you have agreed a contract (then you may have a notice period - possibly 1 week for a new start).

Maybe the employer for the first job liked your enthusiasm to join the company by applying again and wants someone keen to join the company especially after the first one walked out! You can clarify the hours at the interview.

If you go for both interviews and are lucky enough to be offered both, choose the one that you want.

Tell the other one that circumstances have changed and you regretfully have to decline their offer.

Breezay, good luck with your interviews. I just wanted to say that my daughter left Uni at the end of year 2 earlier this year and Tutor stress was a considerable factor. Shes now working in a job she really loves (related to her part time job and not the uni course) and has never been happier - I hope you will find this to be the case too :)
