I am after a bit of advice. A lot of people on here have dogs. I have a 10 year old retriever. He has been down in the dumps for a couple of weeks now. I have tried everything. He has a walk everyday without fail but he is so depressed, bless him. Do you think it is just his age?
My retriever was quite happy on his walks and loved his cuddles, but just seemed a bit down for a few weeks. We took him to the vet who couldn't find anything wrong. But then he started to show real signs of pain ie he couldn't sit or lie down easily, and after a scan it was discovered he had something wrong with his spine.
I'd keep a close eye on your old boy, and by all means take him to the vet.
PS give him a big hug from me, please. Goldies are gorgeous dogs, both in temperament and looks!!:T:T:T0 -
Thanks for the advice. I have checked his teeth, eyes, nose and ears lol. Nothing seems amiss.
He always gets like this when my DD goes back to uni, but he dosn't seem to be able to snap out of it this time. The thing is, when he is out in the garden or on his walk he seems ok. Maybe he is just bored. I will take him to the vet if he is no better by Friday. I hate taking him to the vets, he is such a baby.
I've had labs and they do get depressive when they get older, and sometimes grumpy.
People are shocked when I say they can get a bit snappy in old age as they are so cute......my last boy broke my heart as I had to make that visit to the vet with him:(
He knew it was inevitable as my daughter ended up in hospital and had micro surgery as he severed a tendon in her thumb.
It was so sad as he was MY baby and looked after me when I was ill after an op etc.
And so clever (goes all misty eyed now).....
Should be a bit harder as I used to breed boxers many years ago and that is really a tough call, need to be a bit hardened or even switched off at times(a bit like midwives):)0 -

Yes, I have out the back. How much would you like to pay. I would take payment in MT and fingers.0 -
Afternoon all, Just popped in to say about the T's petrol offer being on again (whoop, whoop!), but of course you already know about it. Is it instore as well as online? I assume both as before, but the website's talking about "when you order online".
Hugs to Logie, 3Dogs, morgy9, mmw and anyone else who fancies one.Hope is not a strategy.0 -
Ha Ha Ha.....
Was now going to try and catch up.... got a couple of posts past my last one earlier and read this....
Have you been in yet..... Lovely new Chrimbo Choccie section opposite the crisps...... i think they must have been reading my posts about the York Fruit..... They have put them right beside the MT on the same shelf. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Lots more 400g MT tonight, both on the chrimbo isle and choiccie section, and we now have a number of the triggers stocked. :T
Just did 2 shops, one with the kitchen roll and mouthwash, results 12.10am, and another MT and Yorks due 12.30 something am, as my DS asked very nicely if he could open the first box tonight.Found a 'MANned' till and parted with my large AGP OK, although all the staff seem to have been trained in checking them. He really wasn't bothered about the value though thankfully.
Also wondered into the games section about 9.15.... trolley full of bags of razors, 2 members of staff, but no sign of them being given away..... So i politely asked if these were the ones I had read about on line that were being given away tonight coz I was aafter one for my DS.....
.... Was told they were waiting for people to queue for the game (although I can't see there being many,) but if I filled in a form they would let me have one.
. Packet also has a £3 off the blades voucher for SADA..... will have to investigate the best time/way to buy.
Well, I haven't done a lot of catching up yet have I.... hope you've all had a good night and all the banter has been nice and friendly.... If not one of these days i'll bring my own sofa over to hide behind as not seen HC's one in ages, anyone know where it is in case it's needed! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
