You could try asking the other mums at the classs as well, or your local Freecycle or similar groups - there might be older brothers/sisters who bought the toy but don't use it any more.

Thank you. It's a small class and the kids are all 1st children so I don't think it will work unfortunately.

Which toy is it? Maybe the rest of us could have a google for you and see if we can come up with anything?

I was worried about exactly this scenario when LO started to get really attached to one toy... so we bought a second. We alternate them as they need washing so they're both getting dirty at the same time. So far she hasn't noticed...

It's a Monkey Music monkey - the big one. I can't even find a google image of the old style one. There are hundreds of the new one.

  • A warning story if you go down the deceptive route...

My daughter lost her favourite toy, so I ordered a new one which took a week to come. The original had lost an eye and looked quite scruffy. I explained it all away by saying that a nice lady had found him in a puddle and taken him to hospital where he was getting a bath and the doctors were fixing his eye, and he would be home in a week. She completely accepted this, new toy came, she carried on loving him as normal.

My daughter is now 21. At a family gathering, I told this story from the past. Whilst everyone else thought it was mildly amusing and I'd been quite clever, my daughter was absolutely FURIOUS. She accused me of lying to her for years and betraying the young her. She went and got the toy which was still lying around in her bedroom and threw it in the bin! Apparently I had tarnished all her memories of her childhood, she couldn't trust me any more, what else had I lied about, many tears ensued and she barely spoke to me for a week.

Now she probably sounds like a right drama queen, but I promise she's not, she's usually very sweet and understanding, but apparently even at 21, discovering that your mum has lied to you is very traumatic.

    So be very careful...

There's no way is ever tell such a story at a family gathering, so I should be okay. Thanks!!

(PS - we shan't be encouraging DD to believe in Santa, the Easter bunny or tooth fairy for this very reason. ;))

My daughter lost a much loved Beanie pet tiger.
She was upset and could not concentrate, therefore I was upset, it felt like part of her childhood had been lost.
I was able to get another one from ebay but before it arrived the original turned up-in the laundry room at her halls of residence! Yup, she was 20.
We were so relieved to have her back!
I hope , OP , that you find your daughters toy, I really do, or that a convincing substitute can be found.

  • I had the same experience when my daughter lost her precious toy in an airport. I told her it had got on another plane to go on holiday......It took me ages but I eventually found the toy on ebay and photographed it in front of world landmarks photos on my computer ( Eifel tower etc).
Gradually the 'postcards' came and then it arrived back on the doorstep............
Could you make up a story until you can either get a replacement or she's found another?

    Hmm... I see your problem.

Maybe the best thing is to buy one of the new ones find an explanation (I can't think of one offhand). At least this way monkey will be the same as the one at the session.

Edit: Could you e-mail the monkey music people directly - they might have some old stock hanging around?

  • Im probably going to get hounded for this post but anyhow...here goes.....

OP , you have my sincere sympathy!

Ever since my DD was a baby she was attached to a "blanky". It was more like a thin cot quilt type thing.

She took this blanky EVERYWHERE with her and couldnt sleep without it.

The blanky was bought by a relative whilst they were on holiday whilst I was pregnant with my DD.

My DD still has blanky now and still sleeps with it in bed with her

Blanky has ben repaired many times and is in a terrible state but he is still much loved by my DD.

If it were to go missing my DD would be distraught....

I know how you feel but my advice would be (if possible) to try to use this as a way of getting your child off their toy...trust me , I so wish I had never let my DD become so attached to a blanky that she became distraught without it.
The loopy one has gone :j

I can try. I've been told that they are made to order for each specific franchise.

She's only going to be distraught because if the class though. She has other toys that she's as attached to, so I can usually distract her I'd one gas been hidden/flung behind the sofa etc. but this one is specific to the music class (which she adores) and she's had the monkey at every class she's been to.

I imagine its no different to the way you'd feel if you lost your wedding ring.
