2nd job over christmas

hi
I currently work full time mon-fri till 5.30pm and every other saturday till 12pm. I work in a shopping centre that's open until 9pm every night and have noticed a lot of the stores are now looking for temporary christmas cover.
I could really do with some extra money and was considering applying for them. However I don't know how it works having 2 jobs.
Do I stand a chance if I do apply considering there will probably be plenty of people who don't have any sort of job applying and I'll just look greedy? Second, how should I approach this with my current employer? I would be making sure the hours didn't conflict with my full time role so it shouldnt really affect them.
Third, I don't really know what to say on a CV for them. I've put down my employment history, and education. I dont really know what else to write. I only want the job for extra cash over Christmas, so don't know what to say in a personal statement/other skills section.
Any advice would be great!

Dos the store that YOU work in open later over Christmas? Maybe its worth asking your current employer for extra hours?0

Sorry should've mentioned, no its a bank so no longer hours. I wish there were, would be so much handier!''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0

Ah, thats a shame! I would just ask the relevant person (HR maybe?), or maybe check your contract first to make sure it doesnt state that you cant work an extra job.
How about doing something like a Sunday cleaning job for a few hours too?
Good luck!0 -
The centre is open Sundays too, so Im hoping I can get one of the jobs in there and work Sundays for it. I'll check my contract, thanks''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0

Check your contract, there is normally a term about second jobs. There is rarely a problem unless you are turning up tired for your main job, but no harm in talking it over with your boss just so they can't catch you out.
As for whether you get one, I doubt they will care that you have another job, might make you a little less flexible but as most places seem to be putting everyone on 0 hour contract it shouldn't be an issue. Everyone knows that a lot of people are struggling financially and need as much work as they can get, they won't think you are being greedy.0 -
Ive had a look at my contract and it should be fine to have a 2nd job.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to say on a CV, that isn't as blunt as 'I only want to work here for a couple of months because I need more money'...''Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a$$holes.'' :whistle:0 -
Whatever you write will be interpreted in a way anybody wants to read it.
You could put something like: Having worked in the sector for a number of years, this is an opportunity to broaden my experience which will benefit myself and a prospective employer.
Looks awful but you have to put something
