wheat/gluten free

hiya
my boyfriend has ibs and after some googling it seemed that there may be a link between ibs and wheat/gluten intolerance, anyways we have been on a wheat free diet for about 2 weeks now and my other halfs symptoms have basically stopped and he is a normal healthy human being again. now i need to come to terms with the fact that wheat cannot be a part of our lives as i am also remaining wheat free in support and also its silly to cook two meals and i dont want to worry about cross contamination etc.
can anyone help me with any nice wheat/gluten free receipes?
any decent wheat/gluten free websites?
any nice wheat/gluten free foods that you have tried?
Many thanks!

  • Hi,

I found these websites very helpful when I went gluten-free: http://www.coeliac.org.uk/ & http://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/. I signed up for 6 months free membership at coeliac.org & received a 2012 food & drink directory, which is invaluable. It includes a list of supermarket own brand gluten-free foods :)

I find Warburtons gluten-free bread to be the nicest. Their lemon & poppyseed, & blueberry & cranberry muffins have had rave reviews, but I'm yet to try them. Don't forget to check the ingredients in your toiletries/medicines/vitamins for hidden wheat/gluten, eg shampoo, shower gel, vitamins, etc.

Clean out your kitchen & buy a new toaster & new kitchen utensils. Check & double check food labels for hidden wheat/gluten. You may want to limit yourself to unprocessed foods at first (before adding in free from foods), eg potatoes, rice, fruit, vegetables, meat & fish (if you eat them), etc. Be aware of other food intolerances that may pop up once you've gone gluten-free, eg lactose or soy.

It gets easier with time & becomes second nature. Good luck :)

Contamination is only a problem if you are actual coeliac, and not just gluten intolerant.

  • There is a great website which is based on primal eating called Marks DailyApple - and I also use forum.lowcarber.org

Lots of great gluten free recipes there and some great baking substituting nut flours etc
