Confused about the whole thing.

Hi,
This is my first time using a forum (ever!) :D
My fiancee and I are looking at selling up and moving house. The house was bought with her and her best best friend (her best friend did all the work when it came to the mortgage.)
The mortgage is with Halifax and we have no clue about mortgages and what would be best for us. Do we stay with Halifax or do we move? What do we need to consider? How do I get right deal for me?
I realise that there are hundreds of question to ask myself but what are the most important?
Thanks

Apart from whether now is a good time to buy or sell - I am sure others to follow will voice their views on this - if you have made up your mind to do just this, then as you say there are many questions that you need to ask yourself.

Ultimately it boils down to affordability as to whether you buy or rent, and what property prices you can look at.

Again there are many more questions that would need answering i.e what mortgage type would best suit you, what interest type would best suit(fixed, tracker, capped), what options would you want the mortgage to offer e.g. overpayments, offsetting, underpayments.

I think it would be beneficial for you to chat through your situation with a fee free broker/adviser and they should be asking all the questions which would make you think to exactly what you should be looking for and allowing the adviser to do their job and come back with a suitable reccomedation.

  • I've just started to work on a similar situation. I started here. Read the ones they tell you to read first. It helped me out loads.

You may also want to download this free brochure, and have a good read. It cleared a lot of smoke for me. I feel a bit more confident now.

    Good luck!
