  • Good luck in finding a local authority recruiting admin posts - I work for one of the richest in London and we haven't done any external recruitment (except for child protection workes and a few very specialist posts) for a couple of years.
  • Thanks jem16, I've been searching hours to find that information about NHS, and thanks hyubh for clarifying some PS are Career Average.

Atush, thank you very much, that was really useful info, things are getting to be much clearer now :D

Thanks also for the good wishes barbarawright, you are right I'm sure, and yes there is no guarantee I'll get any such job but I can try.

Prior to posting I was thinking that Civil Service jobs would have the best pension scheme but I'm now thinking I should trawl the NHS and see what sort of jobs they have, or haven't, got :D
  • Tesco is a career average scheme. If you google you can find the Tesco scheme website and the user ID/password.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • well surely all companies offer 'the best'- no one is going to say something like 'well actually our pension scheme is actually rubbish - company X has a much better scheme!'

so there you have it - get a job, join the scheme - job done.

its a bit like companies saying we're in the top five - that must mean they're fifth otherwise they would be in the top four, top three or whatever.

    hope that helps

BP used to have a very good final salary pension.

    Is it still open?

The BP final salary scheme was closed to new members in April, 2010. Shell are closing their scheme to new members next year. It will be the FTSE 100’s last remaining final salary pension scheme to be closed to new hires in Britain.
