Yeah I did think about that after I posted and adding frozen stuff would knock the temp right down which isn't a good idea with chicken. I've got them on the side defrosting now so may add them for the last hour or so to heat through.

What it is, they were veggies I cooked in my steamer a while back but didn't quite leave them on long enough and were a bit too crunchy for my liking so I just bunged the rest in the freezer to use another time, and finish off cooking them LOL!

I've just bunged some spuds wrapped in foil around the chicken so will see how they turn out. I'll probably scoop out the middle for mash and save the skins for lunch tomorrow.

I have read somewhere on here that you can bung frozen veg in for the last hour of cooking. I wouldn't have thought that it would affect the chicken as it will have been on for 6 or 7 hours by then.

If you give it a go let us now how it turn out - especially the potatoes, been meaning ot try them for ages

I have cooked a chicken stew in the slow cooker and added frozen dumplings near the end of cooking. All was well - although I suppose these only sat on the top of the stew and weren't mixed in.

If I was making a stew then I'd have just bunged them in, but I'm cooking a whole chicken on it's own. I've decided it's just as easy to do them in the microwave for a few mins, as they're almost cooked already anyway.

BTW, the spuds worked fine wrapped in foil in with the chicken ... just took one out to see if it had cooked through and it's done :)

Off to make a gravy from the sauce and hopefully by the time I dish it up ds will be home from his football match!

    Help!
Usually a seemingly endless mass of ideas, I am totally uninspired by my £2 (bargain eh!?) bacon joint. I have put it in the slow cooker with veg stock, bayleaf, cloves and cinnamon. If I put spuds in it would they be terrible? If I cook rice around it will it be naff? I just dunno what to do with the **** thing! I dont really want to do my original plan, mashed potato and musy peas to go with it, because that just doesnt inspire me today, mind you the kids would go for it...
I have in the cupboard/fridge/veg basket:
    carrots
    onions
    rice
    pasta
polenta (Come on Caterina i should have asked you what the heck to do with that!!!)
    chinese mushrooms
    olives
    capers
    dried chillies
    frozen peas
    tinned toms
    musy peas.

    READY....STEADY....COOK!!!

What about turning it into pea and ham soup and removing the bacon joint once it is cooked so you can use it for sandwiches, flans, bacon and egg pie, rissoto, spanish omelet or grilled with chips or baked poatoes?

    Sarah

You can do an adaptation of an omelet with only one or two eggs

Put cooked ingredients in fry pan - pour beaten egg over top and stir it in- cook on hob - then place under hot grill to set it - and make it "puff up and golden"

I have now put the chinese fungus down the side of the joint, in the stock, to add to the flavour, and make soup for tomorrow:)

I ended up making the best gravy i ever had by blending the fungus into the stock, adding some gravy granules then diluting it cos it was a bit TOO flavoursome! Can you tell i was in an indecisive mood yesterday!
Now, I got the chicken out of the freezer this morning, and I would like to know if anyone has ever done a whole chicken in the slow cooker,
    how does it turn out?
    how much liquid to add
could you still use the bones for stock?
