P45

I signed off yesterday after a good 12 months unemployed, how long will it take to get my P45 from the jobcentre. I have signed and filled out a P46.

  • You got a job? :)

I think it's about 2 weeks or so. Shouldn't be longer

If you have filled in a P46 and given it to your employer, then it really doesnt matter how long the P45 takes. Your new employer does not need it. The P46 is sufficient to sort your tax code out.

Finally after all the applications I have made, I got this job word of mouth and using a social network site, In a job I have never done which is a carer. But the first two days has been brilliant.

Well done you! The least of your worries now is when the P45 will turn up. If you get paid before it does all will be sorted in the following pay as like said its about a week or two till you get it but you will get it.

Good luck and well done again

The OP has filled in a p46 so a p45 is no longer required so it doesnt matter when it is recieved.

True but it is always better to have the p45 as with a p46 you go on to a w1/m1 code but the p45 can go onto a cumulative code and as op has been signing on its likely she may have some unused allowance from April to now, however this can be changed when she receives it

If you have earned less than the tax allowance for the full year (which has not ended yet,) you wont pay any tax at all.

Dont forget, JSA is also taxable.
