Credit Report Help

Hi All,

I'm not very good at this stuff so be gentle. I thought I had cleaned up my credit report properly but now not so sure.

Basically was made bankrupt in Mid November 2006, was discharged 3 years later(Scotland) all my creditors had been notified to show as settled or satisfied and I thought everything was ok; even managed to get a Barclays current account and 2x credit builder credit cards to do just that and have been always keeping up with the big payments.

As my BR is due to fall off this month I was curious to find out what my credit score actually shows and signed up for Noddle improve to see what I can do to improve it. Was also curious to see if it goes up and by how much after the BR falls off. My score is showing 548 which is between poor and very poor.

It says there are 3 things impacting my score:
1)The BR is still showing there as it should be
2)The total Balances on lending have increased in past few months(credit builder credit cards but eventually this should be a good thing as I constantly pay off as have been since June)
But the one I am worried about is
3)Account(s) in default- now all of my previous defaulted accounts apart from one seem to have fallen off. The only one that shows is Hutchison 3g which is the mobile operator 3 show as defaulted for £47. I did include this in bankruptcy but I'm more worried about the dates on it and when it's due to fall off. Can anyone tell me if these are correct given what i've said already.

  • I was made bankrupt mid nov 2006, discharged Nov 2009, due to fall off this month
  • Hutchison 3g shows balance of £47 Satisfied BUT
  • Hutchison 3g show consecutive months of defaults from March 2007 to Oct 2009(so 32 months with a RED D)
  • Says account start date Oct 2005 & end date Oct 2009(so I take it this means it will show on my credit file until October 2015)
Is this correct? is there anything I can do to have this taken off? I stopped paying this March 2007 but can't remember when I phoned to include in my BR. I cant remember when I advised them I was BR but I think it was quite early after stopping the payments.

Any help appreciated.

For things included within the BR default dates should be dated no later than the BR date.

Following BR they should show as settled or partially settled.

If they don't, contact the lender - letters available as template in the stickies at the top of the forum.

  • Thanks Pippa; this is what I thought but wasn't sure. I will contact them to clean up

I work for one of the credit reference agencies Hairymonster so I can help you with understanding your credit report. Firstly, I don't know how accurate noddle is, but from the default perpective, there will be a pattern of arrears (missed or late payments showing on the 3G account and then a default date. Now this is showing as satisfied as it was included in you Bankruptsy. All you need to do is check the original default date (not the date it was satisfied) and it will drop off 6 years from that date - for example if it defaulted 1 dec 2006 it would drop off 1 dec 2012. However, your stating that the 3g was included in your bankruptsy November 2006- this date of the edfault is wrong. What I'd suggest is either contacting 3g direct and sending them a photocopy of your original bankruptsy form asking them to amend the date so it will drop off this month or go online to Experian type in credit expert in google and sign up for the 30 free tria. Once you have access to it, you can call Experian and they will contact 3g on your behalf to get the dates amended - all they'll ask for is a photocopy of either your discharge letter or original docs - it needs amended - I deal with customers all the time with the same problem, lenders need to get a grip on things like this as it affects customers when it doesn't neeed to. Its worth doing :)

Thanks for your help girls; I actually just walked round yesterday with my letter(from the stickie) and both award and discharge letters and handed it into their finance department as the office is in Glasgow 2 mins from my works. I think I may have jumped the gun as my new Noddle monthly report has dropped this default off my credit file completely. BUT I have a new query....

I was hoping my bankruptcy would drop off as it's in the final month but is still on so guessing I need to wait until after 20th November when it would have elapsed? do I need to contact credit reference agencies & ask them to remove it after the 6 years has passed if it is still on their? Do they have to take it off or can they keep it on longer.

Also my credit score has went down again when I thought it would have went up. I have been gradually increasing the amounts I have been taking each month on the credit cards; basically anything I can buy with a card i'm using these credit builders- but over 2 cards I have £250 & £500 limits but although I am using a lot I am always paying them off fully as I thought this would increase my credit score? I've been clearing varying amounts from £150-£600 each month which is fairly easy to do as after all bills I have about £1400 each month. I was hoping my score would start going up because of this but appears to be going down- why is this? I have had the cards for 5 months.... do they need to go down before they go up? i.e do they need to see that I can continually pay each month the full balance?

Is there an optimum % of the card limit to use when rebuilding credit file? i.e maybe 50% of the limit of each card?

PS I have used both 30 days free trials already for both experian & equifax

Any defaults included in your bankruptcy should have default dates on or before the bankruptcy order date. Any defaults dated later than this probably need removing or updating. Once you have your credit report from any of the credit reference agencies, whether you go for free trials or £2 statutory reports, you can ask them to dispute the data on your behalf. You can, of course, also go directly to the lenders in question yourself. As you have a report already, you can ask that agency to look at this for you. If the lender agrees to update its data it should do this at any credit reference agenices it has sent the data to.
