Halving Christmas Cake Recipe

Options
I hope one of you clever bakers can help me. I bake a xmas cake each year but its only me who really eats it. Its just us for xmas this year. My husband and the children will probably only have a slice each. As much as I love christmas cake, I've still got a few slices left in the freezer from last year :rotfl:

To make a smaller cake, is it as simple as halving the recipe? How do I calculate the cooking time?

this might help http://www.butcherbakerblog.com/2011/10/28/baked-bean-tin-christmas-cake-pt-1/ she's made 12 small cakes (in baked bean tin - works well, we used to do it at Playgroup) & it seems to be equivalent to a 7in square or 8in round tin.

Thank you, I might try the baked bean can idea- think the chidren would love it. I guess I just have to stick them in the oven and keep an eye on them. I'm a bit of a throw it all together and see what happens cook, so baking always makes me a bit nervous, I need proper instructions to stick to! :rotfl:

If you are going to ice it/them, use scalloped cutters (for scones etc) if you have them. Makes them looks pretty & easy to do - just thinly brush with warmed jam beforehand. And, because they're so small, a wide ribbon wrapped around, takes up most or all of the sides - ready to give in moments :D
