A while ago there was a discussion about whether our London Gazette entries should come up on Google and someone said that the LG used to be able to block their entries from coming up on Google and an email address was given to contact them about this.
I emailed them about it and got no reply so I resent the email this morning and have now had this reply
Having searched your name using Google, I have discovered that the link to which you refer is actually being published by a third party, Vlex. Vlex re-use data from the Gazette and publish it independently. They can be contacted by clicking the link below.
http://vlex.co.uk/corporate/contact_information
In the meantime, I can confirm that the notice which appeared in the Gazette has been blocked from search engines. I am sorry for the delay in responding to your query but hope that the above meets with your approval and shall be happy to assist should you have any further queries.
Do I have a right to ask Vlex not to publish my name? Are they within their rights to grab what they like and publish it on Google? I'm thinking it's not worth asking them not to, if they have the right to do it so won't stop? As my address is witheld by order of the court due to DV I really don't want my name bringing up any information about me via search engines.

Not an expert, but i think you probably have a right as it is a private company and should comply with data protection laws and dont benefit from the opt out that the london gazette does because the london gazette has a duty to publish itHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

Bankruptcy is a matter of public record, so I don't think the DPA applies.
The London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazettes are all published under Crown copyright, which means that anyone can use and re-use the information as they see fit, more or less.0 -
But why shouldnt people be able to search for your name and find out what happened?0
-
Johnny, why would they need to know 'what happened'?
Anyone that needs to know for financial and professional reasons is able to use the London Gazette website to search for that information and I have no problem with that."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0 -
does that info stay on the gazette indefinitely?0

I think there are lots of circumstances where people would like to know, but they would not consider looking in the London Gazette.
My ex business partner is a bankrupt to the tune of a million pounds, and Id hate to think of more people getting suckered into the next load of schemes. It should be easily found in my opinion to protect people.0 -
It is very easily found, simple search of the London Gazette.
I'm seriously worried about our safety, my current address is witheld by order of the court due to the DV my children and I have been subjected to. But currently the register shows our previous address which gives a good idea of our area if he were to assume we have settled in this area which pins us down fairly well. The court can order things to be witheld and the LG can help by blocking search engines pulling info but it seems others can put what they like from the LG despite the risk to people."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. Never heard of it till this thread. I found the details of his via the government's Individual Insolvency Register.
Were I to put his name into Google, I find him doing a Phd as a mature student, the business names he was a director of. All seems very respectable, however nothing could be further from the truth.0 -
I would hope that if you were doing that sort of level of business with some one that you would know about the London Gazette, eiir, companies house etc. I would have checked out their background thoroughly using all the official notices rather than just a Google searchHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
