Struggling with debt? Ask a debt advisor a question

  • Hi,

Have been offered a largely discounted settlement from Apex that I want to accept. Can anyone tell me if an email received from them saying "Once this payment has been received, your account will be marked as closed, your credit file will be updated to partially satisfied and all collection activity will cease, please be advised this process can take up to 6 weeks." is enough to guarantee they will not sell on the rest of the debt/try and claim it at a later date or if there is anything else I need to get them to do before paying?

    Thanks.

    A

Do you know if any of them managed to keep working after a bankruptcy.

My situation might improve but I am keen not to just take advice and ignore it if in reality we are a bankruptcy case

I am making all the payments now for this month but the next round will start around the 20th of next month which I was told should be doable.

I am just very stressed about what the future hold especially having 3 beautiful kids.

Hi callie1982 and welcome to the forum,:)

It sounds like you would benefit from some free and impartial advice.

You can try lodge a notice of disassociation, you find more about these here –

It’s also best advice to check your report with all three credit reference agencies. They are Callcredit, Equifax and Experian.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Mat

Over the last three years, I've run up large (£10,000+) debts on my father's credit cards, got behind on the payments, gave up trying to pay anything over a year ago, ignored all letters from the credit card company, and now they've sent a solicitors' letter threatening court action by the end of the week if debt isn't paid in full.

My question is; is it possible to contact the credit card company/debt collection agency/solicitors and get them to transfer the debt into my name, since I'm the idiot who caused the problem?

Stepchange will be back on Tuesday but the answer to your question is No.

If the card is in your father's name, even if you are a second card holder, it is his debt and any court action will be against him. He needs to seek advice.

Also you should note that not all threats of court action result in a claim.
  • Hi Have problem with X who would not take my name off bank account. Now he has taken out iva so they are coming after me for around £5000 any ideas ?
  • Hi everyone,

Has anyone partially satisfied a CC account with MBNA and got written confirmation that the account is closed and later been chased by a DCA for the balance ? or anyone who was satisfied with their settlement with them ?

I am in the process of settling and had confirmation that the account will be closed and marked as partially settled on my credit file but after reading a few different comments on various forums I am confused as to what to do as some people have been chased for the remainding balance even years after the debt was 'settled'.

I really want to pay it off as soon as possible but am scared to think that they will sell the balance to someone else!

    Hi

Im on a DMP, which previously took into account a car loan. We are currently out of the UK, but are back in July. We need to buy a "new" car. I believe its acceptable to take another loan to buy a car, but dont want to upset the apple cart so to speak.

We have also been offered an interest free loan by my work which should help settle back in the UK. This will be taken at source from my wage. Again is this going to upset the balance.

I will also be over due my annual review, obvisouly its going to take a month of so to settle in the UK, is it acceptable to delay this?
