    Hi,

    Hope you can help me.

I have a default charge on my credit file which relates to an overdraft debt with Natwest who have past the debt over to Shoosmiths with whom I have continued to pay the agreed monthly fee without fail for the past 3 years. I now have the option to pay off the balance which they have agreed to reduce to 90% of the outstanding balance. My question is:

They have told me on payment the default charge will be removed from my credit file (within a month) but it will show as an 'arrangement to pay' - How is this viewed in terms of the credit score?

I naturally want to do all I can to improve my current credit score.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Ben

    Thanks Jess

I'll look at contacting StepChange. Do you think a secured loan is a sensible option for my situation?

    Kind regards
    Yhalwtgl

    Hi again :)

It’s unlikely that a secured loan would help your situation as you mentioned that you don’t have money left over to pay towards your debts. It could also put your house at risk if you can’t maintain the repayments.

I’d really recommend that you get in touch with us so that we can look at your situation in more detail and go through your options.

    Hope this helps,
    Pavan

Can anyone help me? I have had some ccj paperwork through to my old address (my redirection missed it so it's dated 16th April and I've just picked it up) but this debt has now dropped off my credit file as the debt defaulted over 6yrs ago.
Can a ccj still be filed and because I've just got this so haven't replied yet will i have missed the deadlines for stopping it?

Hi Ben and thanks for your question.

It’s unlikely that they will remove your default but they can include a note to explain that the debt is settled.

I’ve sent your question to an expert at Experian to get an exact answer and we’ll post back once he replies.

    Thanks,
    Pavan

Hi wamevans and thanks for your question.

I’d recommend that you write to your creditors to explain your situation and offer them token payments of £1 per month until you can afford to pay more. Hopefully this will only be a short term solution until you find work.

If you’d like some help with this or to see if there are any other options available to you, you can use our online debt advice service Debt Remedy (http://www.stepchange.org/msehelp) or ring our Helpline on 0800 138 1111 (free including from mobiles).

I was just wondering that now the 14 days to reply (stupid Royal Mail redirection means I've missed that by 2 days) if I pay the debt in full will it still go on my credit record?

    Hi there,

No, if you pay the debt in full you won't get a CCJ registered against you. There's more information here: http://www.trustonline.org.uk/understand-judgments-fines/ccjs-and-county-courts/ccjs-what-are-they.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards

That's great thanks. I'm going to pay today or tomorrow, will I have to do let the court know I've paid it or will restons solicitors do this?
