It equates to (40 hr week/not London) ~ £1050 before pension payments which isn't exactly luxury in this expensive country. £ ~ 20 a week or a round of G & Ts for LM.

So your'e another that never bemoans the cost of hotels / holidays etc, you are always happy to pay more for everything?

You specifically do not shop around for best value?

Often, in the corporate business, those offering "the best value" or "the cheapest" are raking in the most profits.

    McDonalds?

It is irrelevant where I shop.

Why does Aldi pay better wages than Waitrose/Tesco - yet the goods are cheaper?

Take less holidays, don''t stop in hotels all the time. Change your consumption patterns.

If you are happy for hard working people to be paid a pittance so you can indulge your whims enjoy.

As many are being subsidised by benefits it either get paid for at the checkout or though our tax.

Of course if people don't have the income to choose by necessity they will root out the bargains.

It might be nice if the companies that employed the most people weren't allowed to cheat the most on tax.

Its absurd that Starbucks and Amazon get away with paying a couple of per cent on their profits while a mom and pop cafe or shop has to pay the tip whack.

Boris Johnson has today announced an increase in the living wage. £8.45 an hour in London now, and £7.45 an hour elsewhere.

Good how they can just do all these things when it effects absolutely nothing, isn't it!

NMW is left as is :D

Saw Rachel Reeves being made to look a right fool on breakfast tv trying to explain this nonsense.

Yes, it was absolutely wonderful. Not often you see the seemingly sweet-natured and laid-back Charlie Stayt shouting someone's policy down as "Ridiculous".

You could see her thought process "I thought this was going to be an easy interview: this is making me look like that Chloe person on Paxo".

It's a load of nonsense: it's not for smaller companies, it's just for bigger companies who are making profits and giving their directors fat bonusses. And yes, they want to name and shame.

    Ridiculous!

If the value of all goods was slashed such that those goods wiped out many years of inflation i.e. a loaf of bread was back to £0.46 as opposed to £1.46, wages could also be slashed similarly.

Majority of milling grade wheat used in the UK is imported from Canada. So there's no control over a key cost of production.

I think there's a spelling error - shouldn't it be "Glenda Jackson", not, um, "Glanda...."? :)

There's an MP on the list who I knew when I was a young girl. He was gorgeous, but is rated very down the list here. I still think he's attractive, but guess he's just an old git to the 'sexymp' voters.

Couldn't find the Balls's on the list, nor the Millipedes.

Japan used cheap workers to produce goods at a cheap price for the West.

Japan's industrial revolution came with the adage of being the best in the world. Which it was for a period of time.

I still remember 30 years ago seeing the first fully automatic programmed robotic tool that machined a torpedo warhead from a solid block of metal.

Did Japan benefit from post war investment from the "west" too?
