How to maximise on Asda Price Guarantee

Are there any websites (or threads) that maintain an up-to-date list of product price comparisons, with the 'specific aim' of maximising on the Asda Price Guarantee? (And perhaps also other supermarket discount schemes)

I know there are a variety of threads discussing various aspects, and in particular numerous (very lengthy!) threads discussing the recent Asda price glitch (though having tried reading through some of them it looks like 90% of the thread are just comments such as 'Good Morning'... )

There has to be an optimal way of performing our normal weekly shop, without having to go too much out of our way, buying 'out of the ordinary' products and/or shopping at multiple shops.

An example. I always split my shop into £40 batches. A few days ago, I did three shops (all of around £41), taking each batch to my nearby car. This way I benefited from 3 x £5 before any 'Price Guarantee' vouchers.

But I'm more interested in how to maximise the 'Price Guarantee' vouchers.

I've looked on mysupermarket.co.uk an am able to browse various products looking for which ones are cheaper in other supermarkets compared to Asda (knowing that if I bought them they would work in my favour when the Price Guarantee check is performed). But this is a lengthy and time-consuming process.

Better if there were some site that would perform a daily comparison and list all products that are more expensive in Asda than other supermarkets. On the day we plan to do our shop, we could then look through this list and pick the items we want to add to our list.

We don't need ALL the items in our shopping basket to be cheaper elsewhere. Just enough so that the 'total' for the basket would have been cheaper elsewhere. That way, we would get a voucher worth 10% of the value of the cheaper basket. Plus the £5 voucher for £40 shop.

A dedicated site would be ideal. Or....just a thread on here that contains an up-to-date list off individual products. The problem with a thread though, is that people will post individual products that they have found, but would mean readers have to look through a lengthy thread looking for products they 'might' add to their shop. Is just too much effort. Plus these threads just end up as chat threads as people keep adding 'how are you' and 'good morning' etc.

Am hoping there is already such a site/feature somewhere that I haven't come across yet and someone might be able to direct me to :-)

Surely posts like this are what gets the supermarket putting clauses into these offers. Might work short-term, but long-term the supermarekts will cotton on (especially with people posting the info in the public domain)

If you want to maximize it i'm afraid you have to put in the leg work which is a huge effort, if you went and added 4-5 items from this 'list' your suggesting then bought your usual shop with it. You may well find that 10 of you usual items were cheaper in one of the other supermarkets this then wipes off the apg on the bits you didn't really need/want and only added to get an apg.
Its very dodgy playing a system that doesn't always price check against a certain item you've bought.
You could leave the house with a nice glitchy item on your list and come home to find the glitch has been fixed.
I don't bother with it as it takes too much time, instead concentrate on coupons and reduced stuff.
  • I have looked for a website listing the best buys to maximise the Asda price guarantee. There was one about a year ago which has closed down - I haven't found any others. But MySupermarket is a good option - using its various tools you could fill an online shopping basket with things that are on special offer at Tesco, check the comparable price at Asda and then buy the whole lot from Asda, in store or online... I suppose for items with a really good discount in Tesco compared to Asda, that extra 10% could be a substantial amount of money.

If you only know of a few items that are definitely cheaper in another store, and want to use the Asda Price Guarantee, it's a good idea to fill up the rest of your basket with things that are definitely the same price in both stores. I find that things like smartprice tinned goods, pasta and rice tend to be exactly the same price across all the stores, so they're a good option.
  • For those with a smartphone, the TrolleyChecker app might be worth a try. I've looked at their website and it seems you can scan items as you shop in store and it tells you to split your shopping into two transactions at the checkout - those that won't earn you money through the price guarantee, and those that will! I don't have a smartphone myself so it's not much good for me, though...
