Bank ruined credit rating twice

Hi all
I am unsure as to where to post this, if this is in the wrong section, apologies in advance.
To cut a long story short, my wife was refused credit several times, she got quite upset due to the fact she has always had a perfect record. We checked her credit file and noticed a charge from Barclays which had basically ruined her rating. We don't even bank with Barclays and apparently they had her details from when she purchased a house some years ago. They apologised and reset everything, and the rating went back to good and the Barclays thing disappeared totally. Just under two weeks later and it came back again, during this time we were refused credit for something that we needed, this has actually cost us quite a lot of money. They promised to respond by 2nd November, they have not responded and her credit rating is in tatters. I want to get legal with them as I think this is totally unacceptable. Has anyone got any advice? I would be very grateful if someone can advise me on what I can do here.
Edited to add - Also, since all this has gone on, my wife's credit card interest rate has increased twice, is this related?
