    Hi Jo,

With Next Directory, for some reason, everything has to be bought on a Next Directory account. They don't bill you for anything for two weeks after you get it (so as you can return them should you wish and they'll never appear on the statement) and then the bill would be paid after that.

As for having no credit rating, I guess Next will just give you a very small amount of credit for now, when I first bought things from them I was similarly suprised you had to buy on credit. They only sent the credit agreement to sign about a week after the order arrived too!

    Cheers

It just seemed a strange way of doing things.

It is a strange way of doing things indeed! I had the same experience as you, was about to pay with my card and it went through on account. Took almost 2 weeks for what I'd ordered to arrive though.... And I had to ring to chase it up.
When I got my account with them I was in a similar situation, lived at home, a fairly low paid job and no credit rating as I was only 19, yet they gave me £500 credit instantly, and through some sort of error within a few months my credit limit had gone up to £3600.... The repayments are odd with next though, I currently have a little over £300 on my account and my last repayment was £53. Seems strangely high for a storecard but I'm in the process of paying it off anyway and always pay at least £50 a month off.
  • Don't Next have 2 types of account:

A Cash Order Account and a Next Directory Credit Account.

Did it not ask for any card details at all?

    Hi Just_Jo

Have you tried going into the store and asking them to order it into the store for you, I know alot of shops do that for you so they should - worth a try and saves the hassle of accounts.

    Just a thought.

if you ask at the counter at the Next stores, they can order your item from the Directory stock and arrange for it to be delivered to the store for free.

Alternatively call the sales line and say you would like to make an order and pay for it straight away, they will then transfer you to the credit-cash dept. Who will set up the cash account for you and arrange for it to be delivered to your home (delv charge will apply but after this you can arrange future orders to be delvd to a store for free as an alternative)

Did you find it improved your credit rating with other companies?

I've already "ordered" it in a way but next time I am instore I will have to ask.
They don't make things very clear
  • I must be honest I am almost 100% sure next give a credit account to anybody no matter what your credit score is. Both me and my partner have really bad credit and we both got an account with no questions asked, all they ask is name, address, phone number, dob. I think it's pretty silly for a business but works out well for me. We were both given £200 credit to start and are now on £900 after 9 months.

You can order from stores. My mum does that as she lives in a small town and is rarely in to get post/parcels and so on.
Having said that IMHO next is overrated and overpriced.
