I've seen people say that all they have is free AVG, Avast etc and that it's fine for them but i'm a bit worried about banking, shopping and log ins (as a comper I have loads!)
I didn't really want to pay out again as I also have a Chromebook so can easily do things on there if free AVG on my laptop isn't secure enough.

Keep the system & your installed programs patched & up to date and you'll be as safe as you can be so long as you don't do anything silly that could lead to you becoming infected.
Download SecurityCheck from the link below and save it to your Desktop.
Link- Double click SecurityCheck (XP), or right click and choose "Run as Administrator" (Vista, Win 7)
- Follow the onscreen instructions inside the black box.
- A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
- Post the contents of that document in your next reply.

Thanks for your reply, i'm pretty careful when browsing and downloading so shouldn't be a problem. I also reset my laptop recently as it was running slowly.

When they are, if you're not running a fully patched system then you've trouble. Your computer's at risk of being infected by drive-by download with no interaction on your part at all other than visiting the compromised site.

Interesting reading, though Java was a must have.
I've updated Windows and uninstalled Firefox as i've recently switched to chrome anyway. Appreciate the help.
Thanks DCFC79 and michaelro will have a look at those two.0 -

If you need to have it installed, keep it updated - remove older versions.

If need be, disable it in your browser and only enable it when needed by a website you trust.
