Full-Time > Part-Time ?

I currently work part-time at a local garden centre in between full-time education. The garden centre is part of a small local chain of about 8 or so centres.
During easter I picked up several extra days of work, including Good Friday, which is counted as a bank holiday. For bank holidays, all full-timers receive time-and-a-half pay, which is their overtime rate.
Sadly, part-timers do not receieve any bonus for working the bank holiday. This was my first bank holiday working, and I was sorely disappointed.
From a legal perspective, is this allowed?

It was when I was temping a few years back.
The full timers always got time and a half for working bank holidays but the part timers never did, unless they worked full time hours for the week before the bank holiday. Therefore I refused to work bank holidays!Here I go again on my own....0 -

As far as I am aware there is no legal right to over-time rates on Bank Holidays.
That said, every company I have ever worked for I have either had the day off paid on a Bank Holiday (if it was my working day and the company was not open) or been paid double time when I've had to work on them.

Strictly speaking, under the legislation for equal rights for part time and temporary workers, you should be entitled to the same amount of pay.
However, most employers get round this by saying that in the particular week you must have worked x hours (usually the equivalent of full time) before you can get the overtime rate.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Though employers may try to "get round" it in the way dmg24 suggests, if the OP really wants to pursue it then I would have thought that an ET would be on their side rather than the employer's.0

when i worked in retail, i mainly worked sat sun and mon, i got no extra for working bank holidays on the monday as i needed to work full time hours before being entitled to overtime rates0

It would be worth asking this at ACAS: I'd have thought that requiring people to work a full week before they were entitled to a higher rate for bank holidays was discriminatory, especially as presumably the full-timers weren't working any more hours than their usual week, IYSWIM.

As there is no legal requirement to pay you at all for Bank Holidays then the fact that the day you worked was is irrelevant!!
As one other poster said - the point that time and a half will hit is when you exceed a certain number of working hours in a week regardless of what day it is.
Your contract will also have a bearing on this.

It's not about being entitled to bank holidays or not. The thread is about working on a bank holiday but not being treated equally.
What is important is that part-timers must not be discriminated against. If a full-timer gets time and a half, a part-timer should get time and a half. If not they are not being treated equally.0 -

My point was is the full timer getting paid time and a half as it exceeds their normal hours!!!
