New Credit Card Mid-Mortgage Application

Does anyone know if being issued a new credit card (i.e. a replacement for an expired card as opposed to a new application) results in any kind of credit search or appears as if you're taking on new credit? I have one that expires and should be issued a new one this month, whilst my mortgage application is on-going.

Also, it is 4 weeks since full application by phone, 3 weeks since full application and docs by post, and 10 days since survey and valuation (no issues, value same as price).... should I be getting worried that we've not had an approval yet? This is with HSBC, who took the booking fee a couple of weeks ago and the mortgage account even shows up in online banking with a £0 balance, but no approval yet.

A new card has no implications for you at all.

I think you are getting close to an approval.

Do not worry about re-issue of an expired credit card. It is standard practice and does not leave a credit check on your file usually. So no need to worry on that.

If you are in hurry and the completion date is fast approaching, I would suggest you speak to HSBC about it and hopefully everything should be sorted in good time for you.

    Best of luck
  • This will have no impact on your credit file as for HSBC they are known for being extremely slow so I would badger them every day...
