Unpaid for Training & No Contract

Hi guys,
looking for some assistance and hoping someone can help me out.
I left a job in September having been offered a new position with a different company. I had reservations about the new company from the get go, I never had a contract and was told it would be drawn up after 20 days. This was allow the directors of the company a chance to come up with a bonus scheme as this was for the launch of a new insurance product. There were other things that were not what I would call ordinary, nonetheless I went with the flow hoping things would improve and given that I had just left a job I was in no position to just walk away.
This is part of e-mail I received prior to starting:
"Just to confirm there is training next week, Wed & Thurs, which would be good for you. Times TBC.
I’m also working on package etc whilst over here and will have a confirmation chat as soon as I can."
I attended training on the 27th and 28th of September.
I also attended further training on the 1st of October with n external compliance agency.
I went live on the 8th of October, the idea was to promote a home insurance policy and sell it. I had worked in insurance for a long time previous to my last job so knew quite a bit about it and about policies etc the data to start with was very poor as we started dialling old leads were the renewal dates passed.
I felt as if I was giving positive feedback to the 2 people running the company, there were 2 other sales agents working alongside me and they were struggling more so than myself, although not managing any sales I did complete 11 quotes compared to the next best being 4.
I worked 8th, 9th, 10th of October and @ 9am on the 11th of October I received a telephone call telling me not to come back as they couldn't justify having me on the dialer if I wasn't selling.
Still at this point I had received no contract so was unsure of conditions so I swapped e-mails with them advising I wanted paid for the time and effort I had put it and continued to give feedback as to why I felt it had gone wrong.
The tone coming back from them was very unsavoury they kept mentioning that I had been aggressive and was trying to blacken the name of their company because I had copied the 2 other sales agents in on my e-mails as I never wanted them being duped or told any untruths as to why I wasn't there.
I was eventually paid today by bank transfer and I was paid only for 21 hours with the payslip I received an e-mail that stated:
"Please find pay slip enclosed for the 3 days worked. Training was not paid for and was the reason why lunches were supplied, this goes for everyone not just you, making your start date the 8th October."
The lunches supplied were sandwiches from greggs.
I replied today with another e-mail stating I wanted paid for all my time given and the response that followed was that was all I was getting and if i wanted more i was to seek leagal advice.
I am really !!!!ed off by the whole situation. Thankfully I have found a new job, that is run like a proper organisation and I have signed my contract with them on first day of employment, I know my hours, rate of pay, holidays etc. Basically the way it should be.
