Hi all,
After many months of keeping an eye on the forums and checking out Martins money saving tips I have finally joined up to hopefully get some help.
I got a CC one year to buy myself a laptop as my old one went caput. I then had to insure my car, so I put that on there, then it was free money, so I carried on spending being young and stupid then my insurance came round again.
I then got a loan to consolidate my debts.
Then got another CC.
So here I am many years later and many unneeded spends of said "free money"
I have never had any savings despite my parents advice.
I have always lived to each paypacket and sometimes beyond. My debts in Jan this year were £11,000 and i had managed to get them down to £6,000 until...
I hit a new challenge,
My significant other has lost his job and I am now paying all the house bills on my own, along with my debts & monthly outgoings I had before.
It is going to get worse before it gets better I would imagine. He's been out of work for 3 months meaning I have paid everything into the joint account to cover bills. This money has come from nothing as thats all I had to start with!
He has been offered a job from January working down in london for 6 months, I really dont want this to happen so i really hope he finds something before then... but I digress...
My current overspend is roughly £380 judging by the budget calculator on here. We are already spending bare minimum, I avoid going shopping, using up stuff from the cupboards for tea, not had the heating on apart from about 8 hours in total since April (and its been bloody cold lately!) he's sold his car, cancelled his insurance (which he owes them £300 for apparently, they cut his phone off (he owes them £150 and the bills keep rising) i've just had to tax my car as I live 40 miles from home and i need a vehicle.
I suffer with depression and have done since I was about 15. I cried myself to sleep on Monday night worrying about all this and I just dont see how it's going to get any better

Hiya
Didn't want to read and run. Really identified with what you said in your post, particularly about free money and living from paypacket to paypacket. It can seem overwhelming as I have found today and mine are purely from overspending anf trying to buy the "perfect" life. Having your light bulb moment is the first and important big step. Do you have anything you could sell on Ebay to raise some funds? That's my action plan this afternoon *hugs*Time for some debt busting in 2015 - Light Bulb Moment 4/4/15

I spoke to Halifax (who supply my loan) they have stopped all charges on my account to give me a break & have changed the date of my loan so that it will only come out once in a paypacket (as this was causing me to use my Overdraft)
OH isnt claiming benifits, he is useless with paperwork & is adamant that they cant give him JSA because of his NI contributions (I have tried to explain that there are 2 kinds of JSA) so he isnt really helping me, which is stressing me out more & I cant take the time off work to go with him to job seekers (redundancies have been made this week & I need to show willing)
I have taken pics of some things to seel on Ebay (Clothes i never wore, Remote control car etc) I am waiting for a free listing weekend to put them all on there
I am with Park so Christmas is already paid for with vouchers luckily
We are waiting for the sky to have been in for 12 months then that will be getting cancelled saving me £20 a monthThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
