Lots of frozen strawberries what to do with them?

I'm on a roll today!

I froze a ton of strawberries last summer as we had too many from strawberry picking. I thought i would deal with them later but now i don't know what to do with them.
I am pretty sure the last time i defrosted some they just went mushy.
Don't think i have enough jars to make jam.

Any ideas? as they are taking up a ton of space. TIA

  • Ask for some jars on Freecycle. I, for instance, have a load that I am about to offer there.

Put them in a bottle with vodka leave in a cool, dark place and shake every so often and make strawberry vodka :D

We defrost a few at a time and mix with plain yogurt. That way it dosn't matter if they are abit soft.

They'd make yummy smoothies/milkshakes. Probably also really good in HM icecream if you whizz them up in the blender/food processor before adding to the icecream mix.

another vote for smoothies - or make into pie filling - cook gently with sugar to taste, thicken juice with a little cornflour or arrowroot and water, and let cool. Then use as you would a tinned or home prepared fruit filling, for flans, pies etc. You could even refreeze once cooked :D

We used to live on a fruit farm years ago, and strawberry pies were ery popular with the family :)
  • I'd make ice cream, all you need in some double/shipping cream, and the frozen strawberrys, blend all together while still frozen, an waaaala!
    Save, save, save, save.
  • The hairy bikers did a breakfast with a couple of crumpets topped with fruit. Pan fry strawberries add a sprinkle of cinnamon and top on toasted crumpets, add a blob of yoghurt and dash of honey. Tastes fab!

Strawberries are nice added to either apple or rhubarb in crumbles; and it wouldn't matter that they're a tad mushy after being frozen.:o
