Birthday ideas

I have no children, but most of my friends now have young babies or toddlers. I am trying to think of a suitable way to celebrate my birthday so that friends can bring their children, as I don't want them feel they can't come because of them.

We used to book a table a restaurant on a Saturday evening ,but this no longer seems appropriate. Any ideas?

That's the true sign of a friend - one who actually thinks about how their friends can celebrate with them rather than saying 'here I am, fit in with me' without even considering what that can mean - your friends are lucky, and I hope they know it and show it :)

I'm trying to think about what I would be happy doing with my kids in that sort of setting.

How about a child-friendly (not one where they run around screaming, lol) restaurant at lunchtime instead - find a good one, and there will be colouring books, child-sized portions and child-friendly cutlery etc - sometimes even a supervised play area so mum and dad can spend time talking to you rather than juggling the kids, and all without 'downgrading' the adult experience (food, setting etc).

Or, not knowing how old you are or when your birthday is, would a proper picnic be an option - nice park in the countryside - simple food for the kids, with space for them to safely play, and a 'posh picnic' for the adults, who can (relatively) relax and enjoy the sunshine and your day with you. (Or a similar set up at home if you have a big enough house/garden that you don't mind letting kids loose in)

Or you could go the whole hog and relive your childhood - it's amazing how liberating children can be, lol - they let you get away with all sorts - what did you like to do when you were younger - the simple things are often the best :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Whereabouts do you live, Blubeckers in Odiham is excellent as there is a soft-play area and an outdoor play area and they are very accommodating with children.

Thanks everyone. I love the picnic idea! I knew there was a simple solution, but I was wracking my brains trying to think of what it was. :)
