No wages received/how long does BACS take

Never been in the position before and really don't know how to approach this - I'm rather embarrassed whilst trying not to look desperate I suppose - this relates to my day2day 1st job at the mo

I was thinking I was due to be paid last week - 24th Oct so a week has passed and well no wages have appeared !!! I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt having not long joined the company and it wasn't the easiest of starts, I'm aware I now work for a very small company and all the pressure that could bring, I just don't know how to start a conversation with my manager out of the blue, do I play stupid? after all he sent me a payslip kind of thing, I'm a lone worker so can't even ask with any colleagues on the qt

I wasn't told I'd have to work anytime in hand, far from it
and also received a payslip advice sent only earlier this week (Monday) which I thought was a little strange? can BACS take a while to transfer?

Can they/I make a mistake and then wrongly pay money into another person's account with my bank - all thoughts have been racing through my mind

I can't get hold of my manager today and really I'm hoping maybe the money might still show without any intervention needed, although I can't hold out until next payday either and don't know how to handle this situation

polite enquiry next time you see him. 'Just wondering when our pay date was' and take it from there.
  • Three working days for a Bacs transfer.

A BACS payment sent today would be in your account first thing on Friday.

Certainly worth chasing it up, just as pawsies suggested.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life
  • A bacs payment takes a min of 2 days but most companies its 3. Though this date can be changed to any date so worth asking your manager

If it's a very small company and they are making wages payments themselves they may well not be using the BACS Direct Credit system (the only BACS processing that still exists) due to the cost, but could be using Faster Payments instead. Either way, you should check to see if your bank details have been set up correctly. Also, if you can't ask your manager yet, can you check with a colleague to see if they have been paid?
  • Thanks all for replies

Their are using faster payment as it were and must have just forgotten to put wages through as I received today after enquiry
