Getting my first mortgage

Just wanted to ask if I'd be best getting hold of my credit score/reports before approaching a potential broker? If so, would I be best to get this from Experian?
Thanks0 -
Best answer is to get Experian and Equifax - just to check there is nothing sinisiter on there pre application.
There is another agency called Call Credit, although typically used by Building Societies which you should not necessarily need.I am a Mortgage Broker

There's definitely no harm in looking at it yourself and you can check everything on it is correct.
Be warned though, myself and OH were turned down for our first choice of mortgage when we bought our house because I'd only been in my current job 8 months (under 12 months) - even though OH had been is his for the best part of 10 years and was the main earner. It's a bit of a minefield, and even though I've been through 2 mortgages I still would rather go through an IFA for piece of mind.0 -
I've often wondered how this works. Because presumably regardless of probationary period you have very few employment rights in the first year, so is a mortgage company going to want this risk?fincherley wrote: »I am starting a new job this month, immediately after I move back to my mum's; this has all been confirmed, hence why I know the salary details. There is no probationary period. Realistically, I think I'll be buying around Spring, so I'll have been in the role for a few months by that time0 -
I've just checked my credit score with Credit Expert and it's 848 - bang in the middle of the 'Fair' section, which is much better than I thought!0

Score is irrelevant, it is the content that it is important.
In terms of employment Jimmy, most best buy products stipulate need to be employed for 6 months minimum, irrespective of probation period..
