Feedback for Cex

Useful when also trading in for credit if you use CEX to buy stuff, and it's pretty much instant without any "not included in box"0

I have had a good experience so far with selling a bunch of old mobile phones in store, in the Kingston branch. I was impressed with the price they offered on quite old handsets and have put it all together to buy a new one. I could have taken cash, but would have received about 25% less, so went for a voucher. They didn't have anything in store that I liked the look of, but as of last week, the vouchers are valid on their website, so I ordered a new phone that way. It has been dispatched, so fingers crossed all goes well!
The store didn't smell, like some have commented, the staff were friendly and some very knowledgeable and we didn't have to queue. Based on my experience so far, I would recommend this store.0 -
How is it supposed to be pronounced? I always say it like "I'm going to buy some DVDs from the sex shop"0

Selling, I have found no problem. Easier to get sorted on the day, rather than eBay where I have had issues with non-paying bidders.
Buying, have had a few issues with games and DVD's, but staff have sorted - albeit not always the best customer service.0 -
My wife and I took a phone upgrade and went to CEX with our old phones after checking out what they were realising on eBay.
CEX offered us about £10 more than we'd have got on eBay but with no commission to pay or hassles with packaging, running around to post, etc... we were well please.
To date we have not bought from CEX but one of my sons bought a mobile there without any hassles.0 -
I have used CEX many many times for buying 2nd hand phones games etc. HOWEVER when SELLING goods to them be careful, the prices they give can be a little on the low side, probably less than you'd get selling directly to an individual. You can check on their website what they will give you. I have also found it can vary from store to store, as to what grade they rate you item. I have had one poor experience in the Bilston store when my daughter wanted to sell a windows phone, she took it in for testing, a process they do before buying, after testing the price they offered was low so she said she'd think about it. Took it back 2 days later to sell, again they tested it and THIS time they said there was some water damage inside the phone. The phone had NEVER been exposed to water, I pointed out another assistant had tested it 2 days earlier and said it was fine to which she replied 'AHH yes sometimes our testing process can aggravate previous damage you may not have noticed, I then pointed out that we had bought the phone from them in the first place!! at which point I was told there was nothing they could do but could offer me 10 for it!! ALSO a friend of mine who had a similar experience in a Wolverhampton store took her brand new literally just out of the box IPhone 6 (and I MEAN just out of the box 10 mins earlier from O2 Store) to Cex to see what they would say, a male assistant ummed and ahhed for 5 mins then told her the battery was damaged, and he could onlt give her 100 quid for it'! she replied 'I best take it back to O2 then cos its 10 minutes old!'and showed him the reciept!
SO be careful when selling to them0 -
Absolutely right, my experience also buying is not so bad but when selling they can be a little slippery, I too have had them claim that stuff has things wrong with it when it does not and there is one store assistant in the Bilston CEX that seems determined to NEVER EVER give you a single penny!! This particular store can be very difficult to deal with when things go wrong often only offering to give you a voucher to spend in store and for less money than you paid in the 1st place, they are also bad at explaining the returns policy, almost deliberately bad.
The Wolverhampton store is better though and the staff are very clear about the rights you have when returning goods, prices are better too as they do vary from store to store for same products with same spec.0
