Googler, I agree, that can be cheaper. Sadly, that wasn't what I was doing. I was buying on autopilot, and a lot of people do. :)

The point was to use up the stashes already purchased (shopping from your own cupboards) on everything from food to loo roll, purely in the spirit of saving some money. Once you have reduced the stockpiles, looking at more effective purchasing is also wise.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Partly my problem too Betty ....... when times were good/OK, I did take advantage of bulk buying - however, things are really tight/difficult atm so on a mission to use up my vast stocks - especially toiletries which I've inventoried today and won't be needing to buy for ages (and yes I do still sneak stuff into the trolley if I notice deals on in the sm:o - it's habit)

Why not phone them up and tell your circumstances have changed since that call, you plain can't afford it now, and you'll be cancelling the direct debit with your bank?

Don't ASK them to leave, tell them you're leaving.

Surely if you are in contrat they will chase you for the debt ?

any advise appreciated - it says we have an excess at the end of the month but we really dont!!
Find this! Look at past statements, keep a spending diary etc. If you could stick to the budget in your SOA and find the £200 which is currently slipping out of your account that would be a great step towards clawing your way out of the debt.

My husbands salary can increase due to a bonus system for example this month he got paid £1900 but a wage that high is rare it generally is £1600
I think it very wise that you are doing your budget for the £1600, but also have a plan for what you will do on the months he is paid more. Maybe 80% to debt, 15% to emergency savings and 5% on a treat? Whatever it is decide beforehand so it doesn't slip away from you.
