:hello: all.
I'm looking for a raised pie mould. Do any of you know where I might be able to get one? I don't mind if it's new or second hand.
Something like this is what I'm after:

I can't even find one on ebay.
Thanks.

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

A quick google and found, http://shop.ludlowcookshop.co.uk/?b=17&d=4&k=10&c=294
but must be available for less than £99
edit: getting cheaper http://www.awsmith.co.uk/Bakeware/Sandwich+%26+Cake+Tins/Oval+Game+Pie+Moulds/84185/oval_game_pie_mould_160x90x70mm
edit again. Just spoken to sons GF (chef) and she said it's a fluted game pie mould available from professional stockiest and not cheap.0 -
:-). my raised pies have been moulded on a jar then supported with a cardboard and foil collar :-)nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.

I second Poppy - although I've only ever made raised pies a couple of times (neither enough time nor people to feed to make it worthwhile) - but it's not necessary to use a mould
In fact, it seems that not using one is more authentic anyway
(and if anyone asks, homemade food never looks 'untidy', it is 'rustic' and therefore better than shop-bought
)
There are often instructions on how to mould the crust without one included in the recipe (there was in mine, can't for the life of me remember which book I used though) but I found instructions online here: http://www.theoldfoodie.com/2012/06/raising-pies.html Although a jam-jar sounds like it could be an easier option!0 -

Yeah, I know it's not necessary, but I want one. I want to make posh pies, that look posh.
I'm rapidly going off the idea at those prices though. :rotfl: Looks like charity shops and boot fairs then...If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

I'm a hardcore thrifter and I don't recall ever having come across one at a car-boot or charity shop. My own thought is that it might be worth having a word with auction houses and house clearance people in case one turns up? In my experience they are happy to keep an eye out and it's the kind of thing that might turn up places like that.
Otherwise maybe suggest to Lakeland that they might market one? They are receptive to suggestions like that and I'd have thought that it'd be right up their alley!0 -

Well, that was 6½ years ago. I've come on a bit since then.
I can now happily make a pie. But I've never made a raised pie.
This book:
has a recipe for gooseberry raised pie that looks outstanding. I want one. :drool:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
