Child Benefit Farce

You're in the top 10% of earners in the UK and as it is taxes don't come close to paying for government expenditure so who do you think should pay your child benefit bill? Someone has to be taxed to pay the bill and there simply aren't enough people earning more than you that your income can be subsidised to a large degree.
One person in the household has a large income but this has to support the partner and the children too. The top 10% is also deceptive as it is only looking at those who pay tax PAYE most large earners are self employed and so are not counted in these figures. Raising tax codes for those with dependents is the only way to go IMO and scraping child benefit altogether.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -

Ok.
I'm out of this now because I've had my say and I'm happy to leave it to others.
My main point really remains unanswered: if you're in the top 10% of earners then who exactly do you expect to subsidise your income? The top 9% perhaps? Where exactly should the line be drawn? Everything I've seen on this thread has basically been "I could really do with a bit more cash and I want someone else to pay that".0 -

Do you not actually read and think about what is written. 1 person in the household has a large income the other members have no income at all and so this one income has to support all of them. This household is no where near the top 10% probably closer to the bottom 10%.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -

Anyone who pays 40% tax has a household income in the top 10% of earners. They are also comfortably in the top 1% worldwide.
