Help Bank Account afterwards

Hello All
New to here
I've got a court date 21st May for bankrupsy.:o
Only problem I'm finding is another bank account.
I know Barclays will close my account when all is done and dusted (even though I owe them ziltch), the court advised Nationwide.
Went to Nationwide and its a no no as one of my debts is a cc with them.
Not Halifax, Natwest, Virgin or lloyds either.
I seem to have spent my dinner 1/2hours this week going from bank to bank.
My rent and utility D/D come out of Barclays at the moment and need to get them sorted.
ELP!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!

What type of account are you applying for? You may be declined for normal or 'full' current accounts which come with cheque book, credit facilities etc...
Due to your BR, your best bet is to apply for a basic bank account. The Co-op Cashminder should be suitable for your needs but there are others ... check out this thread ... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=319736:happylove Tori Bellatrix :happylove

:T Big Thank You :T
I've had a quick flick through the post and links.
I'll have a better look tomorrow (to late now, need my beauty sleep lol)
Having my wages payed in somewhere I can get to them is the only thing that bothered me.
I am only interested in a basic account as I know thats all I will be able to get (for the time been).
Times are a bit confusing and frightening at the moment. But I've been struggling for 2 yrs now.
Things can only get better :cool:0 -

Good luck... let us know how you get on. As Bebee posted, the Co-op are very understanding so it's worth giving them a try .. and you get a debit card with the account.
You'll find lots of support on these boards if you need help .. just ask .. :grouphug::happylove Tori Bellatrix :happylove

Hi alafraise - with regard to bank accounts and bankruptcy, ALL bank accounts, including basic accounts, need to be declared to the OR, who will, then, inform the bank of your bankruptcy. It is the bank that has the final decision as to whether you can keep using that account.
Whilst a basic bank account should cause no problem, there are cases where banks have frozen these accounts after bankruptcy, often temporarily, but enough to cause real problems for the account holders.
One possible solution, regarding your wages, is to arrange for them to be paid into the account of a family member, or trusted friend, until your own account situation is clarified - after the meeting with the OR.
You MAY be allowed to keep your existing account, but if not, you can still open a basic account after your bankruptcy hearing.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. following banks as follows accounts offered:
hsbc basic bank account no cheque book/overdraft etc just solo card
halifax (easycash) no till access only if paying or withdrawing more than £300 and cheques take upto 10 days to clear visa electron card
natwest step account nochequebook/overdraft just a solo card
nationwide flexi account basic no chequebook/overdraft cheques upto 15 days visa electron
you could open a nat savings investment account but to withdraw you will need to give them 7 days notice and can withdraw from a post office via a cash warrant.ONLY COPY WHAT I AM DOING IF YOU ARE 100% SURE AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE END RESULT MAY BE. Wages are going to go in my brothers accout (I trust him enough not to spend them).
Just one more question.
After I've been to court how long does it normaly take (on average) before you can apply for a new basic account ?
and
I take it the banks that I owe wont let me bank with them?
('cause that will knock out a few choices)
ok thats 2 questions lol
Thanks again0
