Can you run with an ipod?

I've got an H/D based (Archos) mp3 player and I subject it to a lot of road cycling and some running. When running, I hold it in my hand & it rarely skips so I would say you would be safe.

BUT:

There is a very small *chance* of giving it a major jolt at the wrong time (ie when the disc is actually being read). If you do this hard enough for the head to scratch the surface of the disc (perhaps by dropping onto concrete), you're in trouble.

If you don't want a player to hold more than a couple of hours of music, I would stick with a "solid state" player. These are cheaper, have no moving parts (more reliable) and are lighter, but hold less music and are generally less user-friendly.

eBay is full of very cheap (new) players, but CHECK THE PRICE OF POSTAGE! (Just had a look - The first player I saw is selling for £8, with £24 for P&P!)

£32 probably isn't a bad price for 256mb, but shop around a bit - almost certainly there's cheaper out there.

You might also want to keep a look out for clip earphones. (I have a pair of Koss KSC22 - they have good enough sound, but more importantly they don't fall out of my ears (and come with a free lifetime warranty)).

i heard that you should change the headphones as people tend to get mugged for the iPod, and the white headphone leads are a giveaway - (i am not sure if this is just an urban legend, but it sounds kind of logical)
