Id say run a mile but that's not very helpful. I've been to a banks selection process. It involved getting a group of ten applicants together. We started with a wee session where we told the group a little bit about ourselves. We then did a group task which allowed the selection panel to see how we worked together in a group before finally going off to do a one on one interview.

Id have thought plumbing would be a better paid career than branch level employment? Plus you've always got the option to become self employed, work offshore or emigrate on a skills visa.

Best bit of advice i could give you then would be to think carefully about what aspects of your current employment would tie into a career in banking. You might have to do a bit of lateral thinking. They'll ask for work based examples. Things like, think of a time when you let someone down at work. How did feel? What did you do to resolve it and what did you learn from it.
Also make sure you participate fully in any group exercises. You need to stand out as a team player.
