when i started journey i included debt in my MF,but made no overpayments for 18 months while i cleared 8k debt.
once debt was cleared i used that amount each month to over-pay
like a snowball effect
main thing is doing it loan free if you can---its slow at first to get finances in order but once you do its a much clearer road

Evening guys I hope you had a berry happy christmas:). We certainly did the children were over the moon with their gifts and my oldest - 10- told me off a little for spending too much on each of them:eek: we spent about £300 each but a lot of stuff they actually needed like pants, socks new school bags etc. because they are getting their own rooms in the new house they also had new duvet covers and room accessories too.£370/£300 April challenge :T:T0

What a day!! After my mini breakdown yesterday I got up this morning decided to give up smoking ( I have been fine) and crack on I have taken 8 bin bags down the charity shop 4 up the dump and I have a load more to take tomorrow. I can't wait to move now I have found so much stuff I forgot about ( decoration bits and bobs) its goin to feel like I have all new stuff! The highlight of the day was finding £40 amazon vouchers I had for my birthday and £8 elc voucher that I forgot about!!!
I was hoping for a nsd but I have just had to pay the roofer £950!! I had budgeted it and new it was coming so I might still class today as a nsd as I haven't spent any money on anything else..
We have toad in the hole, potatoes, carrots and peas for dinner so that will fill our tummies. Tonight I am going to make a start on the ginormous ironing pile as I want to start ironing daily so I don't en up with a huge pile. I have call the midwife and downton to watch so I will be a happy bunny:).
I managed to transfer £75 in to an account today which is going towards the debt which hopefully will be payed off very soon and then for the first time in 13 years apart from the mortgage we will be debt free!!!:T.
I hope you have all had productive days x£370/£300 April challenge :T:T0 -
Hi Sillyinthepast.
Well done on your money saving and planning to date, and congratulations on your new home.
I hope you enjoyed your dinner. Sounds lovely.
I watched call the midwife earlier today, and will watch downton tomorrow (OH not a fan of either so he's doing a compromise, it being Christmas..lol)0 -
Sounds like you are doing really well. When I feel overwhelmed I tend to live by the timer- pop a timer on for 30minutes and work really hard at what I'm doing then relax for 15 minutes. Repeat ad nauseum or until you need a longer break.
Hope the move goes well.
As the others have said I'd recommend getting rid of debt and building an emergency fund before overpaying.2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0 -
Evening all. I have had another really productive day today packing and sorting. On a money saving front I went through loads of paperwork and found quite a few coupons.:money: We had stew and dumplings for dinner which was just lovely in this horrid weather.
I went to sainsburys tonight to get a few bits as the fridge was scarily bare:eek: I think I went at the right time as they were reducing everything! I got £96 worth of shopping for £35 including lots of fruit and veg which is what really bumps my shopping up as the kids love fruit. Tomorrow night I was going to make pizzas and we were going to have a family night playing games etc but the pizzas were reduced to 11p and I can't make them for that.£370/£300 April challenge :T:T0 -
Sounds fine if the mortgage company allow underpaying in the same year means you still have access to the cash if you need to.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
