Is this right?

My friend who is 51 was made reduntant in June. He signed onto JSA and started to get paid roughly six weeks later.
He found a job so signed off but the job only lasted a week, went back to JSA they said no problem we will sort it. They paid him for a further 3 weeks then stopped saying he needed to make a new claim saying he didnt have enough NI contributions (he's worked since he was 19)

He took a 3 month contract 24 hours a week (with the promise of overtime) simply to get off JSA and the headache. One month in he has no overtime, full rent to pay and worse off

Comments

  • Why has he not paid enough NI contributions? He needs to find this out! We can't possibly know. Did he sign off and do a rapid reclaim rather than a new claim?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Its possible that his NI hasn't been logged or has been put on the wrong year (which mine was a few years ago). You need to call HMRC and ask them what they show. (I can't remember the number, sorry)
  • I have no idea, but he has past payslips. The whole thing is seriously effecting his health.
He just didnt want to be on the dole and took the only thing he was offered.
  • Thanks
I am trying to help him sort this situation out. I will start with HMRC is there anything else I should be looking at....Citizens Advice and Local Council?

Go to the Citizens Advice, they will be able to help sort out. He will need to take payslips, P60s etc for the past few years. They can make phone calls and things. THey got me a 6 week back payment, also ring the Benfits monkeys and get them to get your local BDC to give a ring back and talk direct to them. The call centre staff know NOTHING. The DWP / Benefits people are complete muppets. They have even managed to mess up me signing OFF!!!!!
