first attempt at rag quilt

have done a small lap quilt for chilly nights on sofa as present for son. he saw it hanging about after i washed it and commented that it was nice so had to pretend i was making it for some one else! its made from wincyette material and as trial made it without batting. the bias binding went a bit wrong big time but sure he wont mind. for the eagle eyed amongst you yes my patterning was completely out!

The pattern being out doesn't matter at all, it just makes it all the more unique, I think it looks lovely

Lovely quilt, I made some raggy denim quilts last year for Christmas presents, they look really nice dont they. Only thing was they bunged up the washing machine quite badly xx

I know! and I made the mistake of washing it with something black!! it came out black and very hairy!!
  • i was going to ask if you machine ragged it:D

i made one a few weeks ago, a double bed sized one made from homespun fabric (its frays beautifully)
and ragged it all by hand and a stitch ripper, good grief never again

i was going to ask my student daughters to take the next one to a launderette, but my conscience got the better of me :o

i love yours, it looks so cosy :D

Contemplating my first quit - what's batting??
  • the "stuff" in between the layers

    you can get polyester stuff
but i use bamboo, its thinner but warmer

depends on how big your quilt is as to whether you may need to quilt it a little to hold it in place, mainly while washing
