Scottish Power having a laugh...

Hi there,
I moved into a new home I bought from a house I was renting from the council at the end of July there, at my old property I only had electricity and it was a pre-payment meter.
When I got in from work today I received a demand from 'Past Due Credit Solutions' stating I owe £66(including 33% admin charge ) to Scottish Power. I wasn't in any debt to Scottish Power when I was in the property so I can't understand how I've accumulated this 'debt', especially since the energy I used I paid for in advance.
This demand was the first communication I've had relating to this matter.
I certainly wont be paying this, I was wondering how I should proceed.
Many Thanks
Dave

Contact Scottish Power and ask them about it. I presume you did do final meter readings at the old property and let them know? Seems odd.
As an aside I got an email from the same company re a BSkyB debt that is outstanding. I had many debts but have never had satellite tv, so its just phishing - wonder if yours is the same?Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -
Forward the email to Scottish Power, it might well be a phishing try on as Jinx mentions.
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

It wasn't an email, it was a letter that was sent to my new house.
I'll definitely be contacting Scottish Power first thing Monday morning.0 -

I too am having problems with Past Due Credit Solutions. A couple of months ago i received a letter from them stating that I owed a total of £3190.65 to NPower for a previous address. To be fair when I opened it I laughed because I only lived in the property for 11 months and I was on a prepay meter. I did have an outstanding debt for £395.15 for the property for NPower but that has since been dealt with. I also have another debt letter from Buchanan Clark and Wells also for NPower for the sum of £1777.20 for the same address! I wrote to both of these companies and asked for further information. I received a satisfactory reply from Buchanan and it appears that NPower are chasing me for an 8 year period at the property therefore I have replied letting them know. They boldly stated in their letter to me that they will cease any further action until they have had a chance to investigate which is what they are supposed to do. Not Past Due Credit Solutions. I had their reply which was a two line letter stating an account number and an amount outstanding it did not even confirm their clients name. The letter was headed boldly "Past Due Credit Solutions vs Miss Me"!!!!! This immediately implied to me that they were trying to intimidate me with this legal look title. I have written to them again stating that they are acting unlawfully and that if they cannot give me further information then I shall expect no more correspondence from them. It appears that this company is acting unlawfully and their tactics (despite their glowing resume on their website) are to minipulate vulnerable people into paying debts which they do not necessarily owe. I shall be writing to the OOffice of Fair Trade about this company if they continue to harrass me. Anyone else had similar problems with them?0

The whole point of pre-paid meters is just that you pre-pay for your energy, by the companies releasing the energy to you they are confirming you have paid. If they have set the meter wrong that is their problem not yours!Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0
