How You Comp Question

Wow, who knew there were so many different ways, very interesting!
I just start on page 1, with the newest posted and work my way through.
If I see a comp that interest me, I hover over the thread title to see a bit more detail. I then open the thread, click the link and enter, then hit thanks and entered, hit the back button then carry on.0 -
I use 'likeability' view, using the link that weeowens kindly supplied in a sticky of quick ways to sort the board. I try to make sure that at least the first couple of pages have either a tick or cross against them.
About once a week, I will look at the take a break and puzzler threads.
When I think about it, I will search for specific competitions that may be of interest, such as "guitar" for my son, or "tickets" for any shows that I would like to see, or "my home town" for any local ones.
Sometimes, if I enter one competition on a particular site that I have to log into, I will search on here for the site name and enter all the ones of interest whilst I am logged on.
About once a month, I will change what I am doing and either do some postal comps, or text comps, or will have a mooch around the regulars board instead.
I usually enter twitter competitions directly from twitter on my phone, not from here.
So all in all, my comping is a bit random, but with the ticks and crosses, it doesn't matter, as it is easy to see what I have entered and what I haven't.0 -
Wow what a variety of ways.
I go to compers chat and find the post Weeowens started with quick links to get the comps in order I want. I do those that end tomorrow (or if I haven't had time the day before those that end today). I look at the titles and if there is something that looks like I want to enter or I have no idea, I hover over the link to see a bit more. I open and enter the comp, then I click thanks and enter (or skip if Ive decided I dont want to enter it anymore) and go back on my browser to see the list of comps again.
I then look at my daily list (I have mine in excel) and enter those again, then I go to the daily thread and look for where I left off (I thank each post so I know to go to the end of my thanks) and click on any new posts that I think I want to enter. I never ever look at the first few posts of the daily thread as there are loads.
Then IF I have any time left (which is very rare) I look to enter some that finish at the month end as there is so many and I might not have much time the penultimate day of the month or I might just randomly look for comps posted today.
Yes comping by end day does mean that I might miss the odd comp, but there aren't that many and I just tell myself I wouldn't have won them anyway.
I might do the opening a lot of comping threads at once. I never thought of that before now.Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday

Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:0 -
I used to comp pretty much the same way as Pootler but found I sometimes got lost or didn't have time to get back to where I left off.
So this is how I do it now:
Open my xcel sheet that tells me the time I need to go back to.
I keep my browser window to the left of the screen and xcel on the right.
i drag all the comps I like the look of into the spreadsheet.
Keep doing that unitl I'm back to where I left off the previous day.
I then use the spreadsheet like this:
1. Search for any closing that day or next and do those
2. do all twitter comps - because they are quick
3. do all FB comps - enter details of any that are not APP based (so like, like/share, comment) on a separate page with the end date so I can check if I won.
4. Do any that show as Daily - move link for each one into a folder on my browser to open next day.
5. Remove these from the list
6. Work my way through the rest.
It sound complicated but at least I can stop when I want to and do any left the next day. (well generally on Sunday as that's a slower day for comps to be posted...)Thanks to those that post the comps!!

That does sound complicated to me, but then so do a lot of things.
I must admit though that today I have started to right click and open the comps in a new tab and it is so much better. Thank you for giving me the suggestion.Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday

I used to just do it by the date the comp was posted and started with the oldest open comp. eventually i was completely caught up with all the comps.....or so i thought.
The trouble is doing it that way then you can easily miss the comps that have a small 'open' window.
so now i start each day by searching comps ending on today and tomorrow (you will be surprised how many comps pop up that are ending the same day)...this way i hopefully very rarely miss any new comp posted.
when ive finished them then i go back to my old method of slogging through comps by the date they were posted.
I dont think there is a good or bad way to do it, but i would remind to search for comps ending today at least.Started late August 2012 .....Wins so far 'The Big C season 2':£5 light bulb voucher x 2: Scatterbrainz comp : art blocks : moons album d/l : The Lucky One dvd- win : Cabin in the woods goodies : Maoam bags x2 :Your Sister's Sister DVD: wooden satellite:Kayak Book ratio 13/74500
