Employment Agencies - general

I have registered CV's with a number of agencies. What's the etiquette if more than one of them want to put me forward for the same job?

How do agencies get paid? (general interest)

Is it a fixed ammount or a percentage of advertised salary?
What's a ball park figure for either?

  • Not sure what would happen if they put you forward for the same job - I'm guessing first in, first served type thing.

They usually charge a percentage of the salary, which varies between agency. The highest I've seen is 40%, and the company never used that agency again.

If more than one agency wants to put me forward for the same job I go with the first one to contact me.

Agencies agree a rate with the potential employer and are invoiced/charged on this basis.

A lot of agencies will not tell you who the employer is so it doesn't really matter. Companies get multiple CV's from many agencies and duplication is common. The company may go with which ever agency they have the best relationship with or the one which is most competitive in terms of induction fees.
